Hey, FSD... I was almost all the way home. Just turned off the highway at a light. Driving along, FSD suddenly braked. "Hey, my first phantom braking!". I overrode FSD and started in on the go pedal. Then, the phantom looked me in the eyes. Uncertain of its direction of travel. I stopped. We looked into each other's minds. Then, the phantom crossed the road with another deer and the other three stood unsure. I gave them a honk and they moved away from the road and I went on by.

I never would have seen the deer there at that time of day in that light there in the hard packed ice and snow beside the road.

FSD is here. Don't delay for "the next better version". There will always be another better version on the cusp of release. This version works. In DC Traffic and Maryland rural areas and highways and two-lane roads through the woods and rain and snow and blinding sun. It just works.

Now, I'm looking forward to the day I no longer have to roll back the right scroll wheel to slow the f$!K down... :p

That is so amazing! I live in the mountains and have considered my job to be watching for deer, CTs FSD job to be driving. But coming through No AZ/So Colorado mtns in the dusk and dark at Christmas it braked hard and i went through the same thought process until seeing the three small deer camouflaged right there on the shoulder. I honked, they almost lunged forward but then turned tail. It happened twice more on the trip and I’d never have seen any of them in time if they’d decided to cross.

Then the other day I was headed through town in FSD and it suddenly put on the right blinker and, I thought, was going to pull into a shopping center. I “didn’t have time for this” and yanked the wheel left, “taking over” just as the cop car came flying past with lights blazing. Yep, it’s way better a driver than I am, but the tailgating with recent updates is making it almost too annoying to use on the freeway anymore, being the offspring of an insurance adjuster who drilled it into us that 90% of accidents could be avoided if people didn’t follow too closely. I hope they fix that soon. Every time I take it out because of that I send in a recording, “tailgating again”.

Some claim Model S production hasn't stopped yet. I don't know who to believe.
It's clear that the Model S is still in production, because you can still design and order a custom configuration online, with your own selections for color, wheels, and interior. Tesla will make it to your specs and ship it out. Estimated delivery in 2-5 weeks to California. Same with Model X.

When the S/X go out of production, you'll know, because Tesla will shut down the online configurator and stop taking custom orders. Tesla will tell you to go pick a previously manufactured S/X from inventory instead (and of course, the vehicles in inventory may or may not have the exact options that you want).

According to Elon, S/X production is not scheduled to stop until 2Q 2026, so sometime between April and June. There will probably still be inventory vehicles available for a while after that.

It's so sad, these cars are very popular in my country. We have a lot of S models, and Tesla Club meets all the time.

Maybe "popular", but they weren't selling.

If the CT wasn't so new, it would have been cancelled, too and there are already plans to use the line in the future.

Sometimes I wonder if I bought the Delorean DMC-12 or the Pontiac Aztec... the future will tell.

The Pontiac Aztek was an innovative and versatile vehicle, but with controversial and polarizing styling. The initial concept car was well received, but the Aztek as released proved to be too expensive for its target audience. Sales were well below expectations, with only around 70,000 deliveries during its first three years. The vast majority of sales were in the US, as there was little international interest. However, the Aztek had high customer satisfaction scores among those who did buy it.

Not sure why any of that would be relevant in a Cybertruck forum.

both had creased edge styling that was polarizing, with the Aztec perhaps being more universally hated. I thought it was cool.

For those not realizing you are joking, let's make the comparison more obvious:

The Pontiac Aztek Cybertruck was an innovative and versatile vehicle, but with controversial and polarizing styling. The initial concept car was well received, but the Aztek Cybertruck as released proved to be too expensive for its target audience. Sales were well below expectations, with only around 70,000 25,000 deliveries during its first three years. The vast majority of sales were in the US, as there was little international interest. However, the Aztek Cybertruck had high customer satisfaction scores among those who did buy it.

As funny as that is, I was more talking about how it will be perceived in the future. The Aztek is known as being... not pretty... while the Delorean is considered iconic. How will the Cybertruck be remembered?

The Delorean is only iconic because it was used in “Back to the Future”. Horrible vehicle otherwise. Slow, unreliable, terribly engineered, uncomfortable.

That may be. But, since I already own a Cybertruck and will likely not get rid of it, I'd rather it be held in high esteem than be a laughingstock... Historically speaking, of course.

You're right. But it's not unusual for popular movies and TV shows to shape the legacy of a distinctive motor vehicle. In the same way, the perception of the Pontiac Aztek today is influenced by "Breaking Bad". Older examples: the AMC Pacer and "Wayne's World", or the Dodge Charger and "Dukes of Hazzard", or the Aston Martin DB5 and "Goldfinger".

Obviously the Cybertruck is visually distinctive, and I bet that someday it will be featured in an influential movie or TV series set in the 2020s. But there's no way to predict how the CT will be "cast". Maybe the CT will be a hero's car, but if we're being honest, a CT (perhaps with a black wrap) could also work as the personal transportation of a movie villain.

Just realized Elon made a post last month saying the AI5 chip is “almost done” and they’re working on AI6 already. But he also made a post in July saying AI5 was “finished.”

I ordered mainly for luxe package which could potentially be ending soon (even though it’s like less than a year old?) since fully purchased fsd can’t be purchased after February 14. But what if a HW5 cyberbeast drops a month after I take delivery and my HW4 can’t support unsupervised FSD? Is unsupervised even coming along with ai5? If so will they upgrade my hw4 -> hw5 (for free) since I got luxe package?

maybe model s/x discontinuation, fsd fully purchased ending, and Elon almost becoming a trillionaire are the harbingers of the imminent release of hw5 and unsupervised fsd?

thanks for any insight.

by the way can you put a model s/x yoke in a cybertruck? I much prefer it to the squircle.
“THE SQUIRCLE” is the most comfortable steering wheel I have ever used. Absolutely love it! Have no idea why someone wouldn’t like the squircle, yes I know change is hard. In fact the squircle is so comfortable I want to put one in my Y.

HW5! Yes waiting on the cyberbeast to have HW5 before i reserve another one of these awesome vehicles.

There were maybe 25,000 Cybertruck deliveries in 2025. However, that was the second full year of CT sales, and there were maybe 40,000 deliveries in 2024 (plus a handful at the end of 2023).

The CT is now in its third year. It will most likely finish 2026 with around 75,000-85,000 cumulative deliveries. So it's selling roughly as well as the Aztek did during its first three years, probably a little better.
