...for grabbing the first rail of politics with his left hand, the second rail of politics with his right hand, and then licking the third rail with his tongue
Ohhh…… I just never based my truck purchase with anyone’s political beliefs. Just bought because I liked it? Never held a grudge against any car manufacturer due to their affiliation. Probably guarantee you could find some fault in history for any car manufacturer, but that never once came into play in my 40 years of vehicle purchasing.

This is a great thread. Let’s not get it shut down for politics.

I honestly was being serious and wasn’t a dig at anyone. I just buy my vehicles for the look or performance. I just don’t let anyone or anything steer me away from something that I like or I find to be different.

Now that I reread my post, I can see how that might have been taken. Like I said, I can give two shits about all the political stuff. I liked it in 2019 and I bought it in 2024. At some point I offended someone, but I seriously don’t care.

Has anyone seen one of these on the road?
Who am I kidding? Of course you have. It’s the BMW X7. It is a very capable seven seater SUV with luxurious interior. (I know, I have a friend who has one). It costs $93k at a minimum. And, being familiar with BMW packages and add-ons since I have owned a couple, this is likely much higher out-the-door. Let’s call it $100k to be fair. How many people have driven by this vehicle thousands of times without blinking an eye. Never once did a thought cross their mind, “I wonder how much that costs?” And yet when I started driving my FS CT in the beginning of 2024, what was the first question on most people’s minds? “How much did THAT cost? If you don’t mind me asking?” And my response? “Not much different than the cars you see everyday, including that F350 you just saw pass by that you didn’t even take a second glance at. “.
yes, price may play a role in a purchase decision, but I agree with many on this topic, that it definitely wasn’t the only factor. Considering I pass vehicles on a daily basis (many vehicles) that cost 1.5 to 2x the price of my truck. But no one ever stops the guy in the BMW 8 series to ask, “how much did you pay? “

Most of the 1M+ reservations failed to convert to sales for 3 main reasons:

1. Price
2. Price
And
3. Price
I waited years to take delivery, 100% because of the drop in range vs the announced.

The EV pickup market is the entire pickup market to the extent that it outperforms and costs less to own and operate vs conventional pickups. The Cybertruck could have met that challenge as originally spec'd and priced. Elon even called out Ford on pricing and then blew it himself.

Someone is going to get that right and sell like gangbusters. Probably BYD.
Franz: The Model S is a great high-end sedan, but it costs too much. What should we do?

Elon: Let's make a smaller low-cost sedan! We can call it ... the Model 3!

Franz: Terrific idea! I'm sure the Model 3 will be a huge hit! Now what about the Model X? It's a great high-end SUV, but it costs too much. What should we do?

Elon: Let's make a smaller low-cost SUV! We can call it ... the Model Y!

Franz: Wow, you're on fire! I'm sure the Model Y will be a huge hit! Now what about the Cybertruck? It's a great high-end pickup, but it costs too much. What should we do?

Elon: Hmm, that's a tough one. I got nothing.

110K for my Cyber Beast with lifetime FSD and free Super Charging will cheaper in the long run compared to the 3 Ford's 150, 250 and 350 work trucks I own. Just in fuel and service alone. Plus, I got a Lifetime FSD Chauffeur and that is worth every penny.

For the guy with the Maverick have you ever driven the cyber truck???
Did you know the Ford Maverick has had over 25 distinct recalls and over 40 if you include software glitches?

Nobody says shit about other car manufacture recalls, I think they are just jealous about Tesla's and the cyber truck.

Also Elon: We make humanoid robots now.

Seriously I'm buying one though.

I actually don't mind the current Cybertruck models (Cyberbest and AWD) are not as mass production. It makes them more premium and unique like the Ford F-150 Raptor and RAM 1500 TRX.

I do hope Elon will keep producing/evolving the Cybertruck, as I cannot find another truck on the market that has a six-foot bed and can completely drive itself from Point A to point B.

I agree with you, now that I've owned a Tesla. Before that? I really had no idea how extensive the charging networks are now. The problem isn't the charging infrastructure itself, it's the ignorance of the infrastructure to the general public. It's a frequently cited concern of potential new BEV buyers.
This is really something that worries buyers way more than owners. It's a large hurdle for the average person. They think in gas terms. Not the fact that they can just plug the car in at their house. It's way easier owning an EV.

This is not a bash on the CyberTruck specs or such but why in my opinion the CT just does not sell like Tesla hoped for.

The CT was brought out to much fanfare and with a just under $40K price for a single motor. It looked like a nice mid priced vehicle at the time with some really nice features included. But what actually came out a few years later was more of a high end priced vehicle that was missing what I think are basic high end touches. Which turned it into a niche product and still is to this day.

So here is a short list of what I think.

The sound system from what I read and you all mention is very good and high quality.

Range was not what was promoted.

The interior is lower grade plastic in many places and just does not seem like a $80-100K+ vehicle

The also cut corners on build as shown by the recalls for the Cantrails and other items that were not put on right in the first place.

Quality control was lacking for the first year or so and many of you had issues with wipers, wind noise, doors, panels not lining up and still happens to this day on some new trucks.

Even some of the extra nice touches had issues like the Tonneau cover leaking water from rain more than it should.

What would be the final production truck was not tested enough if at all in the field like it should have been. Many of the issues coming in colder weather, rain, and even some general usability issues would have been caught and hopefully corrected. Fixing those issues would have made a better product and better sales.

This is just a small list and there is more as I have read from your posts like the PCS issue that costs alot to replace if not warrantied.

I know some of these issues have been corrected now by the 3rd year of production but the damage is done. The CT has several nice features like steer by wire and good towing. But there is also on the other end areas where it just does not seem like a $80-100K vehicle like some of the interior plastic, wind and door noise, window noise issues for some.

In conclusion it is now set to be a niche product. It will never sell even close to what was envisioned to be. To many of you that is fine but that is not what Tesla wanted it to be. Even Elon said the CT may be a downfall for Tesla many years ago.
your profile picture shows either you are Pinocchio or you desperately want one-may be you are a cook. :p
