Got them installed finally. THIS TRUCK! Is anything predictable? I was tapping into the existing Frunk light so that it would work with the opening and closing. What voltage would you expect? I had read that everything was 48v. Then i found a few points that were 12v. Well guess what, the frunk light is 5V. 5volts! Why would a light be 5 volts. the puddle lights are 48, the interior lights are 48, the license plate light is 48v. but the frunk light is 5! anyway, i had to put in a relay, and then it was trouble finding one that would fit between the outer and inner panels. finally got it in and working. Its very bright and very helpful and comes on when you open the frunk, and if you don't want that much light you can turn them off manually.

But that means there is a usb power option in the frunk also. Isn’t that what runs a usb port? 5v?

nice work! That looks like a great work area and there’s no question you’ll be able to see everything, including small screws that sometimes grow legs and walk away
Those are easy to find. I have a perfect system. You just kneel randomly, and voila, you find the screw!

Most USB uses 5v, but I already have a High Wattage USB charger in the frunk that runs on 12v from my stepdown. It will charge a laptop which a standard USB won't.
But maybe that was their thought, why else would you have 5v?

Was the 5V measured while the light was plugged in and illuminated? I would have expected 16V from the PCB silkscreen.
Did you splice into the harness or add tee connectors? I'm looking into options to intercept the lightbar communications and leaning toward the 6 pole connection near the firewall.

its only 2 wires not 3 or 4. Can it change voltage based on whether its connected to a load? I cannot recall whether i first tested it with it unplugged. I think i unplugged it first.
I tapped into the lightbar power do drive it with the relay. 4 wires. outside pair are 48v and a little bigger gauge.

It could have a weak open circuit test voltage, or the light module might work fine with 5V šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

There is a 6 way connector near the firewall that splits into a 4 way for the DRL lightbar and 2 way for the frunk light (haven't found a separate part number for subharness though) .
For your lid mounted lights, tapping at that end makes sense. I'm looking into a DRL (CAN) version of my off road lightbar (LIN) bridge module and the 6 way seems like an easier option, especially given the side, but I haven't re-disassembled the frunk to see.

This is so amazing! If I was smart enough, I would have done the same thing but alas, I was forced to go the layman’s route! Haha
The lights are magnetic but because of the stainless steel, I just used the adhesive strips that came with them and placed them in the same spot. At least I got that right haha 🄳🤪 They’re just simple motion activated under cabinet lights.

I know. How many more lights can this guy put on his truck? Well, this is replacing some lights that i had already added, with something new! Possibly a first! My Zombie lights (formerly Big Foot lights) always made some wind noise and were subject to damage by branches. Or Zombies. This is something completely different that could revolutionize off road lights. A 4"x4" COB panel sitting flush on one of my rack pillars. Each is 50 watts of LED which is equivalent to a whole bunch of incandescent. They throw light 180 degrees on both axis' so they would not be appropriate for front lighting, but work lights, backup lights, camping lights, spotting lights, etc, they are great. After I mounted them, I thought (my god, they look like post it notes). Well, you are supposed to cover off road lights on the road anyway, so i got a piece of carbon fiber and some neodymium magnets and made covers. The covers make the lights disappear and have been wind tested to about 90mph
So, for what it's worth.
You saw them here first.
