So I want to show my experience with getting custom wheels from @Atomic Wheels.
For a long time I really like the looks of the Volk TE37 wheels. I’ve seen some pictures here with Cybertrucks on them and I absolutely loved the looks. The problem was that they are very expensive, and they don’t come in the color I wanted, gold. You can custom order some colors for an additional fee, but their gold was more like beige, it didn’t look metallic at all. Also, custom colors take several months. So not being completely happy with the colors available, and with such a high price, it just didn’t make sense to me.
Then I also like Method 709 wheels. Much cheaper than the Volk wheels. Really like their fake bead lock rings. They also don’t come in the color I wanted but for the price difference I was willing to send them to be powder coated locally.
Then, reading several forums about wheel reviews I came across a thread about someone complaining about his custom wheels order shipping being delayed. I read the whole thread and was impressed how the wheel company handle the situation.
I had never thought of getting a custom wheel from an unknown (to me) company, but the previous thread got me to think about it. Plus I got an idea that really excited me: What if I could combine my two favorite wheels into one?!
So I contacted them with this drawing, and asked if they could do it:
They said yes, and after payment (which was not bad at all) they immediately started working on renderings.
It was a really fun process and I added some more changes like having my name on the wheels.
The wheels manufacturer and design team seems to be in China, and although all communications are done through someone here in the US, named Santiago, communication with them sometimes was a bit hard. To me it almost seemed that the design instructions were being read by someone who doesn’t speak English at all, or by AI. You know like when you ask AI to change one thing in a picture, and it changes the first thing right. But then you ask to change something else, and it completely messes up the previous change, then you try to get it to fix back the first change and it screws up the second change, an so on.
So at times it was a bit frustrating but at the end, Santiago (I guess the owner or representative here in the US) made it all good. He had a lot of patience with me (I am pretty picky about what I want) and I guess with the team in China too.
We agreed on a final design and the wheels were manufactured.
Then they send pictures. They look exactly like a imagined, with a small detail left out which was quickly resolved.
Then the wheels arrived, and OMG!!! Absolutely beautiful!! Even better in person!
I couldn’t wait to get them installed.
I got some nice tires and here are the results:
Then I immediately wen to the desert to put them to the test!
Having some fun:
And here is my awesome truck after our first adventure with the new wheels.
All and all I am really happy with the wheels, and I will definitely order more from them in the future!
