They could likely raise the top speed with just software. But it's where it is because of the limitations of tires, brakes, etc for something so heavy.

Acceleration is a whole different issue, probably can't tweak that up much if at all.

If someone would just put drag tires on it, I bet you it will do crazy surpise someone hasnt.

Wouldn’t mind more power. It’s fine down low but up top it’s lacking a bit.

My beast is my first EV, years back I thought I heard that tesla was selling an upgrade flash , where they charged you $ and then sent a new flash that made the car quicker, do you think they could or would offer that for the cybertrucks? And if so, would you pay for more quickness and top end?
Yes but that was only possible on vehicles that were software locked into slower models. Such as my wife’s 2020 model Y. If you didn’t buy the performance model Y you have the option of a $2000 acceleration boost which we did for her car it didn’t make it as fast as the performance version but you’ve got a .5 seconds quicker 0 to 60. That was meaningful.

The beast isn’t neutered in the same way. Almost certainly there is a margin in our tri-motors to have them go faster but there is no compelling business case for for it and for safety and longevity of the car, I don’t see it happening.

i noticed a reduction going from the factory tires to Goodyear duratracs. The Goodyears knobs don’t offer the the bite on concrete. Some slicks would be neck breaking fun!

The Dura tracs wouldnt be a drag tire for 1/4 performance, you would def need to swap out anything RT related on the 1/4 :) But i agree slicks i think would break a record 1/4 time on the CB

Other than software updates that did make early M3Ps faster, I don’t recall software updates that made top tier S/Xs faster. There is a paid acceleration boost for M3 & MY LRs, but not Ps or RWDs.

That said, if there was an acceleration boost for DM CTs that gets it into the mid-high 3’s, I’d buy that. ?
They did have an acceleration boost for the MX 75d back in the day as well that they called ā€œuncorkingā€ they they did basically for free for most people for a little while. It stemmed from them realizing that people were willing to sacrifice some suspension and tire health (and some stress on the battery) for performance, and that they had been overly conservative initially. The boost was modest.

I doubt it would come for beast but maybe a modest paid ā€œboost modeā€ for AWD. Expect $2000-$5000 price tag though and a warning about increased battery stress/suspension wear and tear not covered by warranty etc.

I think to make it quicker would require grippier tires. It feels like tire-slip is the only thing holding it back. That and possibly torque at higher RPM.

Totally unnecessary in my opinion though. The thing is PLENTY quick.

Would rather have a bit more range TBH.
I think to make it quicker, they should start with better brakes!

I think he just needs a little boost of Christmas Spirit.
There's a bottle opener for that very reason!
