I took delivery of my AWD on 5-11 in Kennesaw, GA. This is my 3rd Tesla and it was a pretty typical hands off delivery. I had some time to go through the truck with a list I had made before accepting delivery. Overall, I was pleased with delivery. They got the big things right. The body panels were perfect and the truck was clean enough. There are a number of places on the exterior that need some scrubbing, but overall it was clean enough. The inside was immaculate.
Just some first impressions and thoughts:
1. This is going to be a great vehicle for me. 5 years ago, I decided I wanted a truck. Right around that time, Cybertruck was announced so I decided to wait it out rather than buying a new car back then. I'm glad I waited.
2. The amount of attention this thing generates is CRAZY. I'd say 50% of the cars that pass us are taking our picture. We stopped at a BBQ joint in the middle of nowhere Alabama on our way home from delivery. We sat at a window to eat and watch the parking lot. It was NUTS. People taking selfies and wandering around it.
3. The attention has been 110% positive. Old folks, young folks, black, white, guys, girls. It literally brings a smile to everyone's face. I let some teenagers take pics in it in the church parking lot this morning. You would think I'd just handed them a million bucks. It made these kids so happy. Tons of thumbs up and waves from people passing.
4. I am not going to adapt quickly to the turn signals. Old habits die hard. I'm trying to force myself to use signals even in situations where I wouldn't normally. I will get there eventually.
5. I wasn't completely prepared for how teeny and worthless the rearview mirror is. I'm not quite sure why it's there
6. The tailgate is awesome. My son has a GMC Sierra with the MultiPro tailgate. Obviously, his is easier to get into, but his tailgate is super heavy. I love the lightweight tailgate.
7. The headlights are fine. On delivery, I think they were pointed way low. So, I've raised them and now they are great. I'm not getting any lights flashed at me, so I guess I got them about right. Pro-tip....if you raise them too high, auto brights won't come on.
8. The 35 inch wheels are awesome looking. I had 35's on my jacked up LR Disco. For some reason, the tires on the CT look way bigger. Maybe it's because they are wider. I ordered some lug nut covers to tide me over until the wheel covers come in.
9. I was able to easily clean the windshield with one of those long handled triangle things. No problem at all.
10. I like the squircle. It's going to be great for road trips because it's perfect for resting your arms.
11. The drawer glovebox is a better way of doing things. Stuff doesn't fall out when you open it.
12. I had 10,000 free supercharger miles on my Model 3. They now apply to both our Teslas so that was a nice surprise. I already used them on my first supercharger stop.
13. Once the CT appeared on my Tesla app, all of the settings from the model 3 auto imported to the truck. So, my music went to the same station and my temp adjusted. That's pretty cool.
14. The exterior is going to take some work to get it maintenance free. As above, the truck has plenty of stains, etc.. on it. I have already confirmed that BKF takes care of things but I'm not going to worry about it much until my ProtectaClear kit shows up.
15. I love the Bed cover. I actually baled on Rivian when they took their powered bed cover away. This thing is awesome.
16. The sound system is great. I would say it's better than Rivian and right up there with BMW's Bowers and Wilkins $8000 add on.
17. Blind spot detection. It's certainly an upgrade over my Model 3. I would say it's not quite as good as the system on my former Porsche Macan. The Macan seemed to give a little more warning. Maybe this will improve or be adjustable over time.
18. Well after delivery, I did find one thing that will need correcting one day. One of my rear seatbelts is twisted. I'm not going to make the 125 mile drive just to get this fixed as it certainly workable in its current condition.
19. The lock sounds and light sequence is awesome. It definitely goes with the Truck.
Overall, I'm super pleased with the truck. It feels like a weird combination of a Maybach, a Porsche and a Denali pickup. That's a good thing.
