I’m curious from this forum - I know on forums much of threads are about issues with the respective cars/products/whatever just because that is where they are discussed - but is this ramp going well? The numbers seem to say so, but the amount of issues seems high. I wasn’t around for production hell of the 3, but did the Y have this many issues? It was on the same platform as the 3, so I assume it was better. There is A LOT of new tech in the CT, and Elon said as much, but when do the experts on here expect to start seeing issues be few and far between..

I have a 2023 Y and 3, and have had nary a problem.. why I love Tesla so much!! But the issues on the CT seem like a lot, no?
Just curious on some of y’all’s thoughts

Just going off my general observation (and without using technical data) there don't seem to be an alarming amount of product defects. I do think the ramp up is going slightly slower than they had anticipated though. And those defects do seem to be somewhat isolated and minor.

Since this is an enthusiast forum, we will tend to hyper-focus on problems or make incorrect assumptions in terms of how widespread an issue may be.

In the early days of the Model S for those who waited over 5 years on the TMC forum after placing their deposits to get their vehicles it was actually a rather similar scene back in 2012-2013. There were a very similar number of complaints. Issues with the AC and in particular the defrost, concerns about range reduction in cold temperatures, and of course at the time there were no superchargers which created a lot of discussion about where to charge when not at home if your employer did not offer charging at work.

I don’t see this as much different. Just my two cents, FWIW.

Cheers

Ya I am new to Tesla starting in 2021-ish. I appreciate the response!

I've been following Tesla for almost 14 years and have owned several. IMO, the Cybertruck's defect / problems seem quite limited...impressively so. There will always be some issues that weren't caught in development.

People blow things out of proportion like the accelerator pedal.

The biggest potential engineering issue that I've seen is the rubber seals in the tonneau cover sliding out. Hopefully they can make a running change on that soon.

Thanks for the insight! I am really trying to sort through the noise and find if the problems are over exaggerated or not

Any publisher gets more clicks if their story is like OMG this is a problem as opposed to OMG everything is fine. I’ve had my CT in for a couple of issues, but they get fixed and everything is fine. I get a Y or an X loaner. I’m happy with it. I do have to say I was planning a couple of 2,500 mile trips, and the bad press has lowered my enthusiasm for the trips. I’ll give the CT a little more break-in time before going on a long-distance journey. I’ve been on 800 mile trips and they were fine.

I do wonder how long until they are forced by some regulator to find a way to soften the sharp edges. I’m sure it would be very expensive, but they really should have rolled the edges to prevent cuts. I love Teslas because they are an EV and have many significant OTA updates.

The ramp is going well. With the way Elon was talking in Nov and Dec, i am very happy with the 1000+ units per week that we are already seeing pumped out

As for vehicles with issues, if we are at roughly 12000 produced, then we're probably talking less than 0.5%, or 60 units. I am only talking major issues here.

If we are counting minor things like a tailgate needed a slight adjustment or things like this, then outside of the pedal recall, maybe 1-5% of vehicles have needed extra care I'd guess.

Considering the castings with machined bosses and laser cut panels, there isn't a lot of chance for significant fitment issues. People give Elon Musk a hard time for his "micron precision" requirement, but this method literally allows for it.

well you'd have to define "QC issues". I'd say that the number of people with very minor QC issues that can be addressed in a single service appointment is probably above 20%. The number of people who care/bother to address them is probably half of that or less.

But the number of people with genuine issues? HVbatt, coolant leak, compressor failure, low voltage harness.... it's probably less than .05%. by now it's likely even much lower than that. That was my guess back when ~4000 trucks had been made.

I've been following a bunch of YouTubers who own a CT and all are seemingly happy overall. The "hate" channels point out very small issues like "it's sharp and can break a carrot", panel gaps are massive", and "range is terrible compared to Silverado EV".

All in all, according to the YouTubers and X accounts that I follow, CT is a net positive and if there is an issue that's important enough to fix quick, Tesla is taking care of all of it and making it right and the buyers remain content.

I was actually invited to customize my truck the other day and completed it. Personally, I feel good enough pulling the trigger on it considering the overwhelmingly positive feedback. I also just joined this forum finally to be a part of the community on a deeper and more engaged level.

Just my two cents. I hope it helps. Cheers!

Interesting you think it’s around 60 or less. It seems like I have seen 40 of those either in this forum or on X.. haha. I guess that’s why it felt more
