Lol, good advice I’m sure. My son, who’s had a Model 3 since 2018, loves his.
I’m just wondering about keeping it as a backup. And I hate to take such a hit on it since we’ve only had it a little less than 3 years. (It’s a 2021 XC90 with 60,000 miles on it; I think we drive more than an average amount for retirees.) It’s been a great car. Just not a CyberTruck, lol.
But the hard truth is if it just sits there barely driven from now on, it’ll just depreciate more. And we’ll continue to pay insurance over the years, etc. But it is a sunk cost (paid cash for it so no lien or lease) so there’s that factor as well.
Still deciding but leaning towards selling for these reasons. But to your point, will probably love driving the Tesla so much I’ll never want to drive the Volvo anyway.
I would only keep an electric vehicle as a "backup" because they don't need regular service whether you drive them or not. Just know that any "backup" vehicle is going to cost you depreciation (as well as the lost opportunity of that capital) and a newer Tesla is reliable enough that you shouldn't need a backup vehicle at all. If it requires service that can't be performed same day, you will get a loaner or a rental car paid for.

I would sell the Volvo and buy Tesla stock with it. At current TSLA prices the proceeds from that Volvo could grow to what you paid for the car new.

does anyone know which Auction does Tesla take their trade-ins to? mannheim? others? I am curious where all these used cars go to... thank you
It would depend upon the location, there are lots of dealer only, wholesale auto auctions, depending upon the location.

Wandering where can I get some names of dealer only auction places for Washington Oregon and California… if you know any names please do share and I’ll call them to learn if they get cards from Tesla trade ins. Thank you

BTW, if this is your first EV, I would just go ahead and sell the Volvo. Trust me, once you drive an EV, you will NEVER drive the gas car again!
Revisiting this now that I’ve had the CyberTruck for half a day.
In just this little bit of time, I can’t imagine ever wanting to drive another gas vehicle again! You couldn’t have been more correct in your statement. (Again, first time EV owner here. And to start with a CuberTruck? ? The word WOW must have been invented to describe this thing, lol.)

I guess it’s buh-bye, Volvo. ?

Thanks. If we sell then we may just go ahead and use them in that case.
Just sold to Carvana. They’re picking it up tomorrow.
Maybe it’s the honeymoon phase with the CyberTruck, lol, but this thing is really awesome with a capital A. So I guess “Awesome!” ?

There's a reason almost every Tesla owner is a "cultist". Once you've owned one, it's so obvious that it's such a better product than other car or truck. Then you instantly start to feel sorry for all those who don't know it yet.

It's exactly like when I first got my first smartphone (was an early adopter there too). I remember telling people they HAD to try it and that once they got one, they'd never go back...
