I recently took my CT in for the two recalls (sail trim applique and the wiper motor), and while the sail applique turned out just fine, I ran into a bit of an issue with the wiper motor. Wanted to share this experience so you could check/verify the same doesn't happen to you.
My closest SC (Savannah, GA) is two hours away, which obviously I knew prior to purchasing my CT. We've had my wife's MYP for three years, so while the SC distance isn't ideal, we know what we got ourselves into--we just plan around SC visits.
So I went in for the two recalls and asked for some panel adjustments. My experience with the team in the Savannah SC has been pretty great. They gave me a loaner and said it'd be a couple hours. Cool. So I grab some food, get some work done, and come back--and they let me know it'd be another 20 minutes. Great. So when they wrapped up, I got the "all good" for the recalls, they said all panels were "within spec" and wouldn't touch them, and checked out. It was around 3:00PM.
I went to grab a coffee for my ride home, and it had started raining lightly. Great opportunity to test the new wiper motor. Well, sitting in line to grab my coffee, the wiper started exhibiting some super weird behavior. I took a video (see attached), but essentially...when in "Auto" the wiper would start and then just reset to the "home" position. If I forced into an "on" mode (I/II/III), it would function fine in a constant sweeping mode. But if in "Auto," it would just exhibit this behavior. So I drove back to the SC.
When I returned to the SC, I explained the issue and shared the video. They were cool and tried to replicate the issue and of course it had stopped raining. So they told me it was probably just an initial software glitch. I explained that didn't make sense to me, but I couldn't replicate it at the SC either, so I accepted that and drove off.
Sure enough, a mile down the road, it started sprinkling some and the motor exhibited the same behavior. I called the Service rep, explained the issue, and he took the time to check out the logs in real time and supposedly saw a motor fault occurring. He actually checked the onsite stock, saw there were more motors there, and invited me back to the SC for them to check it out. So back to the SC I went.
When I got there, they checked me back in and they took the truck back. After a bit, the Service rep informed me they performed a recalibration of the motor (involving a "re-homing" procedure) and performed a software update which supposedly directly impacted motor software, and let me know they thoroughly tested it and it's all good and I'm good to go. So I thanked them and off I went. At this point it was about 5:15PM, and I was excited to finally get back on the road for my two-hour drive home (it'd been a long day).
Yeah, so, around that same mile mark, the wiper started doing the same then, then got stuck in a position about two inches from the "home" position. So I called my new friend in the Service department again and let him know it was still happening and asked him if they could get a replacement motor installed that evening before I drove home. He checked with the team and said they would (despite officially being closed at 5). So after a quick u-turn, I was en route to the SC again.
So they finally put a new motor in, a quick test appeared to be fine, I thanked them for their help and headed home. It was a little after 6PM, and I needed to get going. Fingers crossed the entire way.
While it was rain-free on my way home, it rained a good bit the next day and the wiper appears to be functioning as intended. All in all, not really the best experience in the world, but the team at the SC was super cool throughout the experience. Things go wrong from time to time, and in the end, they took care of me. Just wanted to share this with y'all so you could verify yours and possibly save a little headache.
