I have a little different take on the hate. I think the current administration has led some people to believe that electric vehicles will be forced on them. That perception makes them incredibly angry. They view it as a reduction in their freedom and some people just don’t like being told what to do. The cyber truck in particular, aside from being glaringly obvious, is a technical tour de force and has been lauded, fairly highly in that regard. Because it’s performance is superior to most large trucks I think it is perceived as a greater threat. It has certainly become a bell weather for the direction of electric vehicle technology. “That’s not a truck“, could be interpreted as “it bothers me how capable your electric truck is.“

Here on the Space Coast of Florida, so far no negative reactions that I've recognized.

I was walking into Publix the other day and a guy parked beside me said "Nice space ship".
Not sure if that was meant to be negative, I just said "Thanks!".

Lots of positive, especially kids, as many others have noticed.

As I read this thread, I sure don't get it. I see lots of ugly cars out there that I would never buy.
Why would I care if someone else chose them?
To have someone cut you off, or swerve toward you?
My 10 cent psychology tells me it's their insecurity for things they feel a loyalty to.
I’d take a spaceship comment as a compliment

There’s been Tesla haters for years prior to the current administration though. They used to park their dirty trucks in front of the superchargers to block us from charging. It was really annoying when I was on road trips in my Model 3.

My local newspaper published this article today from a New York Times news service - it really is amazing how much the CT triggers people. I mean, I thought the PT Cruiser was a hideous car, but never in my wildest dreams would I give its driver the middle finger.

I’ve received 2 middle fingers in 6 weeks of having the CT. One was a grundge 20-something hippie couple passing me in their Prius as I was slowing down to turn. Whatevs.
Second time was a homeless guy with cup of coffee in his hand, saw me, threw up his arms, tossed his coffee at me (missed, I was 2 lanes over from the curb) and raised finger at me.
Positive reactions 99.9% of the time. Cant go not Interstate without 2-3 cars coming up the side of me videotaping and waving feverishly.
I’ve come out of my grocery store the last 2 times to find families taking selfies next to the CT. One family was dad, mom and 3 little kids with I believe grandpa taking their photo—-family all dressed up post-church. Photo might be their Christmas card for 24’. lol.
Overwhelming positive reactions to CT. It takes a bit to get used to the attention.

I had my new favorite reaction yesterday.

I was stopped at a red light and a person made a left turn towards me. as he passed me he stuck his head out the window, looked at me stone faced, with no expression and just waggled his tongue around at me.

LMAO I have no idea if that meant he liked it, hated it, or wanted to lick whip cream off of me.
If I was a woman I would have been creeped out. I laughed for the next 5 minutes on my way to work.
Maybe it's mating season ... ?

i've gotten the finger from big trucks mostly and recently for the first time a subaru.

i did get a couple of middle fingers years back when i first bought the S while driving in Pennsylvania, but nowhere nearly as often as now. i also have seen big trucks blocking chargers over the years.

it'll calm down as more trucks hit the road.

I read it, I like it. @NYTBernstein

For me, my cybertruck is a metal sculpture. It is a display of creative design and innovation showcasing the ingenuity of the team at TESLA.

It’s just the NYT doing what it does best, dividing people.

Here in north Idaho the negative response is more common than the positive response. Every single time I take it out on the highway I get thumbs down from motorcyclists or the bird from truck drivers.

If I ever get the chance to follow one of them into a parking lot to talk face to face I’ll definitely do it but it’s become a bit exhausting, even with full window tint. I have a Rivian R1T to drive when I don’t have the energy to deal with the attention and in a few days I’ll have a Silverado RST EV that will be the ultimate stealth rig.

I get the middle finger almost daily here in Idaho. Jacked up truck drivers seem to keep their hands in their pockets, it's mostly young guys in sedans or Tacomas. I'll be happy to entertain their criticisms when they are driving vehicles that don't produce 1-2 pounds of CO2 per mile driven. Until then, I just smile and wave.

We need a couple of Idaho CT caravan events to show solidarity.
