My Raptor has an overhead view on screen and it’s extremely easy to park and know where it truck is at all times and how far objects are around it. Why does the CT not have such a useful feature? It gives instant awareness of where you are in a parking lot and how far you from anll objects in one ez to view picture. The CT has blind spots and could really use that camera view badly. Not only that the mirrors are very small. It’s just a software update to fix it. Who else thinks it shou have it?

this has been debated ad nauseam in other forums (reddit, tmc) and the prevailing opinion seems to be either 1) the hardware doesn't support it, which I find unlikely especially with a front bumper camera on the CT or 2) Tesla doesn't want to pay for licensing fees.

I think both of those suggestions are BS. my personal opinion is Tesla's design team prefers the gray pictorial rendition of the surroundings, and/or they feel people couldn't care less about a bird's eye/360 view if their gray rendering of the surroundings is sufficient for driver assistance. It doesn't seem like it'd be a big ask for Tesla engineers to stitch together camera feeds--they just seem unwilling to implement it.

Interesting, who would they have to license it from? I gues if it parks itself then who need mirriors.

The thing is, the overhead view is a synthetic representation made by stitching together lateral-looking cameras. As such it is an approximation of reality and I’ve seen video of a Rivian sideswiping a sign that the overhead view showed clearance for. Tesla is trying to get better representation of the outside world by using more cameras and more sophisticated software.

Bugs me that Tesla doesnt offer this capability that so many other car's have...but I believe we'll get some improved parking capabilities when the fed stack comes out....eg the distance to object, etc

Im used to driving my 2500 diesel with only a rear camera and mis calibrated USS sensors (due to aftermarket bumpers they're off a bit)...so the CT is easy in comparison!

Completely agree. My wife's BMW has this and she was shocked that the same view is not offered on a much more expensive and technically superior vehicle. Should definitely just be a software update. The BMW doesn't have more cameras than the CT. The would be super helpful for parking.

Time and resources being limited, personally, I'd rather Tesla put development effort and $ into other things than this. The lines and views already provided do the job fine for me. Even on the CT where we don't get have full capabilities in this and related areas unlocked yet.

As a former product manager I hate when people say how easy or fast something should be to do. There's never enough time or resources to do all the things you would love to do so decisions have to be made. I'm good with this one.

That doesn't look useful at all to me.
Once FSD is ready, you will see a visualisation that is way more accurate than these distorted birds eye views

I had the overhead view on a Genesis vehicle back in 2017 and I found it to be mostly gimmick and rarely used it. I find the cameras, especially the front camera on my CT sufficient for parking in any spot. That said, I will be glad when they update the software with parking sensors, even if it is their faux sensors.

Ironically enough, teslas visualization/gpu/ai tech would likely produce one of the more realistic birds eye view.

Nissan gets paid for the overhead stitched together camera views. Tesla definitely isn't going to pay Nissan.

My wife's BMW has it, my new M3P doesn't. I was very much in the camp that Tesla should implement it, and then I got used to the Tesla image. Now, I tend to prefer the FSD image over the stitched view. It is proportional, a more intuitive way of looking at your surroundings, and when you add together the rear camera and two side cameras that pop up when I am backing up, it gives me more useful information.
