And that's powered by the 48V system with a step-down converter in the rear.
Have you seen this step down converter? Where is it located? I read that someone added a radar detector in place of the rearview mirror and got power from a wire under the cover above the mirror. They said it was 15v. A lot of unknowns in the electrical system.

There may be a lot of unknowns to you. Lots of it is in the Service Manual.
Simply put, there isn't a 12V battery.

Never said there was or implied there is a 12v battery. What about this step down converter? Is that a guess on your part?

I believe the stepdown is built into the logic boards.

Was your truck ever in service?
Not that I'm aware of. I haven't had it in for anything but can't speak to what happened before I got it. I received it with 15 miles so I can only assume it was a factory mishap?

In other words you don't know and are guessing....
Well, yes, there was a little guessing as to the obviousness of where it is.

But I did a little research and I now know that I'm correct.

The main vehicle control (VC) modules have local voltage step down converters for loads that need less than 48V (brake booster for instance). That's where the camera module power feed comes from.
Same deal with the trailer connections. The rear VC outputs 13.5V for those.
The wiring schematics are available at service.tesla.com if you want to see who runs what.
