I finished the DIY PPF wrap of my Cybertruck (AWD) a few weeks ago, and thought I'd share it for those who are interested in a matte clear PPF. For context, I've installed PPF on 5 or 6 of my own vehicles, at least the front section, so I felt comfortable taking this on. Looking back this was by far the easiest DIY PPF install I've done. The kit came from @T Sportline. The instructions were good; the cut pieces were all packaged nicely, and, in general, the kit was labeled and easy to follow. My only complaint was the spray bottles. They were cheap and way too small. I ended up using the ones that came with a TESBRO kit for my wifes model Y.

I did manage to screw up my first piece, the hood. I had a section that wasn't tacking down, and I grabbed a spray bottle with a much higher alcohol % mix than my tack solution and sprayed the edge. It immediately started to shrivel. It was 100% my fault for grabbing what was nearby and not using the right sprayer. I contacted TSportline, and they quoted me $487 w/ tax for the replacement hood piece. I checked with XPEL and got an uncut piece large enough to cover the hood for $306 w/ tax. I actually found installing an uncut piece and trimming it easier, at least for this section.

Overall, it was not a hard install. Some lessons were learned, but I think the results came out great.

Do you have more pics? Or can you let us know how it compares to original look? Everyone in my city has color wraps and I’m waiting to find someone who goes clear to maintain og look but protect at same time. Looks good

Sure, these are a couple of similar angles pre and post. The main thing is that it helps with "color/finish" consistency and keeps the stainless look, which I'm a fan of. I had a few swirl sanding marks from delivery, and I didn't want to refinish the truck until more information was available. The Stealth/Satin/Matte clear PPF makes sanding marks less noticeable, and smudges and fingerprints are no longer an issue.

Wow, so they didn't give you the piece you messed up? Don't they say on their website, and posts here, that they'll give you the replacement piece at cost? So we're led to believe they pay more than retail from the manufacturer for a piece of PPF? Kind of shady. I was on the fence and considering a DIY PPF too. Thanks for the post.

Im a little disappointed they couldn’t not provide a better solution than that. To hear that you were able to get a piece cheaper then what they were going to replace it for and you bought the kit from them is not right

@OldDirtyRobot I'm curious, what was the final price you paid for the original kit from TSportline? I do not have my CT yet but it is my intention to do a PPF wrap instead of Vinyl.

Question: did you get the kit that was cut exact to the panels or the kit that was cut with overlap on the edges?

Question: If you went with the overlap kit how did the overlapping do on the install?

Question: Did you consider the Iridescent Unicorn Gray PPF for the wrap and if so, what was the price quote for that? I think this is a rad wrap and is going to me my choice when I get the CT next month.

Thank you.

Yesterday I noticed that Aliexpress.com is selling matte and satin clear PPF wraps that are precut for each panel for $569 for the whole truck. Anyone interested just search Cybertruck Accessories to find them.

This might be the direction I go. The truck looks good in any color. I had an appointment scheduled to go with satin gray then canceled because I like the stainless look just as much as color.

OP does it completely even out the finish and hide the imperfections? Do the emblems show through?

I won’t delete my side view mirror until after Tesla turns on FSD. Tight spots are a nightmare. Several bumper rubs from my close driveway wall. Only access to charger and garage.

I pull the cameras up all the time. It makes tight spots easy to navigate, but I understand where you are coming from. I miss vision-based parking, and I can't wait until we get it on the CT.

I had same issues. PPF needs to be 6.5m over vinyl to stick on edges. So I just CUT mine so it didnt wrap on the Hood. and front grill area i will be making a Video soon on how i did it on my YT

@OldDirtyRobot I'm curious, what was the final price you paid for the original kit from TSportline? I do not have my CT yet but it is my intention to do a PPF wrap instead of Vinyl.

I went with the XPEL kit, which adds $1k, and it ended up being $2700 in total, around $3k with the piece I messed up. There is another post above that mentions a kit for $569 on AliExpress. My only regret is that I would have liked to have seen a few different brands side by side, but I've had good luck with XPEL products in the past, so I went with that.

Question: did you get the kit that was cut exact to the panels or the kit that was cut with overlap on the edges?

I did the exact cut. It came out well, and I think the panels are suited for it. I also read about some people having difficulty getting the overlaps to tack down with PPF.

Question: If you went with the overlap kit how did the overlapping do on the install?

Question: Did you consider the Iridescent Unicorn Gray PPF for the wrap and if so, what was the price quote? I think this is a rad wrap and will be my choice when I get the CT next month.

I didn't, but that is a really cool color/finish. So many color PPF options have come out since I bought my kit a couple of months ago. To change things up, I will probably do a vinyl wrap over the PPF in a year or two. I've spoken with a few other people who have done this on other vehicles, and they said it is fine to do and won't mess up the underlying PPF even when removed.

Thank you.
