I seem to recall that the Tesla crossbar is rated for 220 lbs, and if that was the case, having something extend beyond the rack like that would really stress that weight capacity. You would be pulling up on the front bar and down on the rear bar when entering the tent with a good amount of leverage. Please let us know how it works out (or doesn't). Best luck.

People need to get out of the ICE camping mindset, that thing is going to kill your range. There's a reason Tesla designed their tent the way they did.

Maybe on this design. Others seem to have managed it well. Tesla's product makes one really give up bed space. I have taller items. Others have deployment that takes seconds.

Curios what the extra weight and aerodynamics does to the mileage with this setup.

Have you done some before and after testing to see the changes?
Another mileage Nazi.

This thing may represent a little more than just a little range increase. It's right in the spot at which the vehicle's airflow goes over the top.

Luggage carriers, similar to this can even be seen impacting the mpg of ICE vehicles. Sure, people have them. Sure, this may not be huge.

But how much work would it take to give some Wh/mi ranges with and without it?

I am NOT a 'range nazi' at all! I have had my Model Y for almost 2 years now and believe me, it's range (similar to the CT) is plenty for most of my driving and travels.

But just because I asked what the aerodynamics and weight for this is, doesn't change anything!

If the thing weighs 100lbs, no biggie, but if it weights 500lbs, I might not want to 'leave it on the truck'...Same goes for it's aerodynamics... If it cuts my mileage by 10%, no biggy for me... But if it cuts it by 25% I would likely look at getting a tent that goes INSIDE the bed instead...

Camping can mean going quite a way from 'home' and losing 25% for a TENT (and who knows how much more for the rest of our gear, food, etc) is quite a lot. Heck, I know someone with a RAM 1500 that has a small popup trailer he uses because it gets BETTER mileage than a 'camper' on his truck does...

But just because I might be CONCERNED about a CHANGE in mileage from an 'external' device doesn't make me (or anyone) a 'range nazi'... We just need to KNOW to properly PLAN...
