A lot of us in frequent blackout areas keep ethanol free gasoline on site (for generators and cars). For hurricanes or winter storms we do ethanol free gas runs a day or two ahead. Also we never let ICE vehicles go below half tank
Never?

That seems a waste of gas.

BEV means never having to worry about the octane of the fuel powering the generator.

It's a hard life out here. BEVs run out of charge in a prolonged blackout. My in-laws in Houston went without power for weeks once. Tesla made a solar power plan for my house for $30k, but I delayed installation until I can pay cash for it

We use ethanol free gasoline for reserves in Texas because it stores for decades. The generator and RX 350h happily take any octane fuel we throw at them. At half-tank the RX gets well over 300 miles of range, plenty for a sudden blackout

We've had our Cybertruck for almost 4 months and it's been the go to vehicle for pretty much everything. We're ready to retire our other gas car (we rarely drive it) for a second EV, but we're not sure what.

I just want to hear what your ideal second vehicle is to the Cybertruck and why? Or maybe the CT is all you want/need?

Here's where I'm at:

Cybertruck 2: Return to Cybertron - We half-joked about getting a second Cybertruck because we love it so much, but it seems somewhat impractical since we both drive together most of the time. What are we gonna do, caravan in 2 Cybertrucks everywhere we go so we can both drive? Also, not sure if 2 will even fit in our garage.

Model 3 - I traded my 2022 LR in when we got the CT, and it was such an awesome vehicle. Would buy again. Probably Highland Performance. I eyeball these every time they drive by.

Aptera - If we really wanted to lean into the unusual looking vehicles. But I'm 6'5' and not sure I'd fit. Looks sweet in black, insane range, solar panels.

Ioniq 5 - We rented one and it was a lot of fun to drive, and I love the look.

Rivian R3 - So cool. I'm not sure what 80s nostalgia buttons in my brain they're pressing, but they pressed them.

Fiat 500e - Beep beep, fits anywhere, nice small compliment to the big CT, but small size is a concern.

Lotus Eletre - Bit of a splurge, but LOVE the look, so it's on the list.
2021 Tesla Model Y (>60,000 miles) first all electric, 2021 Harley Livewire (been on bikes all my life), Cyberbeast end of June this year, owned 6 Toyota 4x4s prior and never going back to ICE.......... Tesla is years ahead of all others, stick with Tesla.................

Where we live - 4 seasons, paved and dirt, miles from an interstate — redundancy counts. Toyota Land Cruiser, and or Tundra do well especially when you have a 500 gallon fuel tank on site. Reliable electricity (city, village, rural, to wilderness) is now clearly vulnerable to outages or even multi-day shutdowns, perhaps more than anytime in decades. May redundancy last. As for the CT it is the incomparable daily driver! After 6 years in 3 and X…
For those who like to plan for societal breakdown or cataclysmic event, the best redundancy is being able to charge off your own rooftop solar. Because when your 500 miles of gasoline range is gone, it's gone.

The supply chain for gasoline is long and complicated and requires large amounts of electricity. Even if gasoline is available in limited quantities, there will be hyper-inflation. Meanwhile, the sun will keep rising every day. If it doesn't, you really have bigger problems to worry about.

In addition to my CT, I have a Highland M3P. I believe this is the perfect combination.
I thought my Model 3 Performance would be the perfect complement to my Cybertruck but in the four plus months I've had the Cybertruck, it's only been driven once - I didn't want the Cybertruck to upstage the funeral.

After driving the Cybertruck, my previously loved MP3 with only 32K miles just doesn't have the same appeal anymore. And it has free Supercharging for life! I drive the Cybertruck everywhere!

I kept my Ford Raptor, spacious and awesome truck, still very fun to drive, perfect long range vehicle. And for Armageddon I have my turbo diesel Hummer H1, classy, massive and indestructible.

IMO, I would get a hybrid. For the times, I need to go long distances or do a lot of driving in a day, which is like maybe 1% per year. Time is more important to me. Even though, superchargers have improved and there’s more of them, it still takes some time to charge and even to get to them. Also, there’s more Teslas out there than 12 years ago when I started my EV journey. Meaning at the superchargers there might be a wait.

I have a 2021 M3P that I will drive into the ground as my second vehicle. The resale is awful, it is still great to drive, no reason to move on yet.

If SBW is added to another Tesla, or competing EV that I like, then I will get rid of my M3P. Until then, there's no motivation.

Don’t get an Eletre. It will kill you.

The Aptera is still vaporware. I have several reservations and the company does not have enough runway for scaled production.

Fiat 500e, owned one, they are surprisingly practical and fun but after driving the CT that thing will feel like a death trap.

You won’t be able to buy an R3 for several years, maybe ever, if Rivian runs out of cash. Also Rivian interiors are poorly designed for taller people. You will realize this as soon as you get in. I have several Rivians and going back from the CT feels like getting into a compact car.

Ioniq 5 prices are pretty low, you can get matte black or matte silver paint from the factory. Or if you buy new you get 2 years free charging. The Ioniq 5 N is the best $75k performance EV and is selling so poorly dealers are unloading them everywhere (Car and Driver EV of the year). They are also very roomy for taller people.

The one vehicle I have not owned is the Audi RS Etron GT which you can find for about $100k off. It’s nice to drive and it’s Ironman’s car. I had a Taycan but Porsche handling encourages you to drive a little too hard. The Audi is more relaxed.
