Our Cybertruck Had The Rear Motor Inverter Issue - Here's What Happened (I was surprised by the FIX)

CYBERTRUCK OWNERS! Watch Out! - this seems to be a very common motor failure inverter issue.

WHAT HAPPENED: Thursday night, was driving around at slow speeds and felt a THUD.
Got a warning message on the screen - rear motor disabled - max speed 65 MPH

Friday: took it to Service and got an MX Loaner - 7 seat.

Service did not have the parts in stock so they got it from another local LA store.

The surprising PART:

- They replaced both front and rear motors
- Replaced Supermanifold
+ 4 wheel alignment!

I picked it up 1 week later - (it probably would have taken shorter if they had the parts in stock)

Hopefully, this video helps set expectations and that it is a relatively easy fix!

Did they say why they replaced the front motor too? For my rear inverter dying, I could still drive with my front motor and as far as I can tell they only replaced the rear inverter (motors are still the same).

@denniscw, what range was your VIN in? Was it an early one? Did they say WHY they replaced both motors and Supermanifold?

I’m glad Tesla fixed it in a week. Any source that indicates this issue is “very common”? That’s a very bold claim to make for a serious issue like this! Do we know how many vehicles so far have been impacted by this inverter issue?

I only remember maybe 3-5 cases on top of my head.

I had my rear inverter replaced a few months ago. Same thing, driving, then loud thud, rear motor disabled. Could only drive 50 mph. I had it towed to an SC, and within a couple days they replaced just the inverter. It was the day before Tesla announced they may start to replace some motors in certain CTs.

This just happened to my truck. Its in the shop and waiting to hear back but exactly what was described in this video happened to me also.

It happened to me 2 weeks ago, went straight to service and got it fixed in 3 days. They replaced the rear motor as well, so far so good, I feel like there's even less vibration on the freeway with the new motor.

Want to add myself to this and say it is common. Have my appt on the 16th. Hope it doesn’t take a week.

wasn’t everyone supposed to get new motors with early vins?
Im 4k vin haven’t heard snything or had problems with 10k miles

Same with mine. Rear inverter was replaced for me. Not the motor.

I had my rear inverter replaced last month as well! It took about a week for the part to arrive and two days for the replacement to be completed.
