Questions about those who wrapped their CT

Hey folks

Iliya from TWRAPS here. I've been working on wrapping our Cybertruck in PPF to develop our own super DIY-friendly cut pattern from scratch.
With that said, once I am done (should be very soon) I want to do a few things a bit differently and as such I have some questions for those of you who wrapped their CT. I'd much appreciate your answers! So here we go:

1. Did you wrap in vinyl or PPF?
2. What are the top 2 reasons you chose vinyl or PPF instead of the other? /i.e. if you did vinyl - why vinyl and not PPF, and if you did PPF - why PPF and not vinyl/
3. What color?
4. How much did you pay for it?
5. How long did it take the shop to wrap it? /i.e. from the day you drove into the shop to the day you drove it back out/
6. Are there ANY exposed edges? What about when you open the tailgate, the part that's the inside of the quarter panels?

Here is my progress.... I have a few more adjustments to make and tomorrow I am taking all of this off and re-doing it from scratch with satin black for the test.

Ive done Vinyl, and now i am on PPF

Vinyl is so much cheaper why i did it the 1st time, PPF well I got tired of rocks and the hood getting jacked up all the time
3. What color?
I did Black Vinyl 1st, then I went to Black Plum PPF
4. How much did you pay for it?
I wrapped Myself Vinyl around $900. PPF closer to $2000 Film Only
5. How long did it take the shop to wrap it? /i.e. from the day you drove into the shop to the day you drove it back out/
6. Are there ANY exposed edges? What about when you open the tailgate, the part that's the inside of the quarter panels?
Everything was with Edges folded aka wrapped edges no metal showing

2. PPF as its come a long way, is far more durable than vinyl and looks like paint
3. Inozetek Metallic Emerald Green
4. $5,500

6. TBD - The other they wrapped, nothing exposed that I could tell. Can report more after I get mine back.

@TWRAPS save your trigger fingers and buy one of these to apply the slip solution. Life (or at least, finger) saver when you wrapping and unwrapping all the time.

I've installed to the edge, and wrapped edges....real pros and cons to each, I'd suggest that lighter colors (i.e. those that don't really contrast with the steel) really don't need to be edge wrapped, but anything lighter or darker does, as edge-installs are just a tad variable. Wrapped edges look better, but are tricker, and take about 30-30% longer.

2: The wrap shop convinced me that since mine will be stored inside, vinyl will be fine.
3: Matte Frosty Blue Metallic (Avery Dennison)

6: All edges were wrapped. Tailgate opening was wrapped to the plastic backing so no metal is exposed even when gate is open.
NOTE: He had an idea (to which I agreed) to add a double layer of the Cybertruck logo to the tailgate, then wrap over it to give a raised embossed subtle effect!

Yup, after a full day of wrapping and testing what tools work and what don't, I agree - I will buy one of these. And also one of these.
As for the edge wrapping - indeed, this takes a while...I am starting to figure out a way to develop the cut pattern (+ a way to treat the surface prior to the install) where the edge wrapping becomes easier, but it still takes quite a bit of time. I will probably develop a model without edge wrapping too (for clear PPF for example) but right now focus is on edge wrap...it hurts to think that this beautiful satin black wrap will go away ($1700 for 1 roll/wrap down the drain... twice already ?).

2. Reviews were way better about looks and durability.
3. Dark gray High gloss
4. $4200 with the ceramic coating
5. 3 days
6. Everything great. But some scratches or patterns from the stainless steel are visible when the sun shines straight at it.

Here it is Friday and I am being told it might be Monday before I get the truck back. How is the Cybertruck so difficult to wrap with PPF? I am pretty bummed right now. Yes, I want it done right and for sure I want them to show the quality they stand for! They do great work.

Sorry to hear about that. I can provide some insight as to why it may be more problematic than one would expect, based on my experience. There are a few factors to consider here:

1. Wrap shops have 2 ways to wrap:
A) use blank material and then trim once applied - very slow approach.
B) use a cut template provided by some software they are using. Usually that would be 3M Patterns, XPEL DAP etc. - with this approach you get a cut that's relatively there but that cut was never optimized for install efficiency. Think of it as doing rocket science with a calculator - it sure helps but it doesn't solve most of your problems by itself. You still have to do the grunt work.

2. The CT's surface requires a wrap to extend more than usual to hold on the edge. I guess it's the lack of coating to which PPF sticks so well that makes that, but the end result is this - if you don't wrap at least 0.5cmm around the edge, it just doesn't hold.

3. Because of 1B and 2, wrap shops might be spending extra time with these edges. That's why I am developing our own cut pattern from scratch and testing - last week I wrapped my CT in gloss black. This week it's stain black. Next week I am putting orange for the fun of it. With each iteration I test how the material holds, how easy it is to install and I improve the cut model to make it faster to install and less likely to have issues post-install - something that shops can't really do nor does it make financial sense for them to do it. For example my benchmark for when this product is ready for us to release is when I have the cut template, the tools (testing various tools) and technique (testing various techniques too) to allow this to be wrapped in 1 day by 1 person. A regular wrap shop has no way of doing it that fast unless it's multiple very experienced people and a little luck.

4. There might be something else at play too (just speculating) - they might have a customer who went back for some urgent re-do of some panels which can further delay them.

Either way, I can imagine it's frustrating and adds cost. Sorry to hear about it and I hope you get your CT back soon!

It's a little frustrating but no problem. Added cost? lol There will be no added cost that's for damn sure, not out of my pocket at least.

Nice!!! More photos or it didn't happen ? That color looks really nice! I am wrapping mine in Orange this week (for the next test I am doing) and next week doing gloss white... Currently sporting satin black which I will take off tomorrow:
