What was the source for the original number of reservations? Was the "millions of reservations" number published somewhere?
Earlier this year, Elon disclosed they had over 2 million reservations. I'm not sure why some people are so hung up on the number, I've been saying for over a year the ultimate conversion rate might be as low as 10% due to multiple orders, people who can't afford the new pricing, high interest rates, etc. For example, between me and my wife, we have 4 reservations even though we only intend to buy 2 (and have only bought one to date). Even though affordability isn't a problem, my wife is waiting for certain things in her life to align (like moving into a new house), before she wants to take delivery. She just replaced her 6-year-old RWD Model 3 with one of the updated 2024 Model 3 Performance. And it's a stunningly good car. She's just not ready to crowd the driveway/street in front of our house yet.

Taking delivery of a new truck has to wait for the time to be right. There's no way she will buy any other truck, she loves my Cybertruck too much for her to change her mind, and I'm sure there are plenty of others who, for their own reasons, aren't too impatient/anxious to pull the trigger at the word "go" but who will not let go of their reservations, either. We would only get $300 back for our three reservations, and then we wouldn't have a reservation! It's a no-brainer to either use it or hold it, not get a measly $100 refund.

yea reservation is almost meaningless. This isn't buying an iPhone lol.

so no one who ordered this wk got delivery date yet? im worried it'll be into 2025.
I have to assume Tesla got a flood of new orders they will have to work through before a non-reservationist can count on getting one without having to wait longer than the estimated timeframes. It takes time for Tesla to update the expected availability dates for various configurations and the law doesn't require them to do it in real time.

If you want a Cybertruck, all you can do is place an order and wait. Maybe if you're willing to pay the extra $20K cost of entry of the Foundation Series (or perhaps even the tri-motor), you can get it sooner, but I wouldn't say that with any certainty either.

$100 was too low for the reservation. It made the list huge. It’s also been 5 years. Not everyone is going to order an 80k vehicle as soon as an email arrives. They will sell over time when people are ready.

I'm holding onto my extra reservations in case someone totals my Cybertruck and order wait times have grown. I wouldn't want to wait even a month or two if I could help it. The $100 reservations are worth it from that standpoint alone. The $8K FSD associated with a reservation (if one reserved with FSD) could also become valuable if Tesla raises the price back to $15K when I'm ready to buy another Cybertruck.

My configurator is still showing October or November delivery. Why are people hung up on 2025?

Once again, you don't buy directly from Ford.

that's hopeful but no orders recently got delivery date yet is worrying. Those config dates can change anytime.

Apparently Tesla is gearing up to product in house LFP batteries. I am assuming 4680 format.
It only makes sense. They should've been aiming to start the moment the patents expired but...

Well, their CEO has been reacting instead of predicting.

The reservations were for a truck that cost the average price of a new truck, not one that cost 33% more.

Seems that detail is more important than the $100 down.

What was the source for the original number of reservations? Was the "millions of reservations" number published somewhere?
There were lots of sources. Elon himself said at Battery Day in 2020 "The orders are gigantic, so, we have like, I don't know, well over half a million orders. I think maybe six-hundred thou -- it's a lot, basically. We stopped counting." and Franz said "more than a million" as part of his launch tour last year. In October 2023 Musk was quoted in Road & Track saying, "Tesla has 1 million reservations for the Cybertruck and it has the capacity to build 125,000 a year in 2024, with the possibility to double that in 2025." At the same time, Analyst Dan Ives who is close to Tesla was reporting 2 million reservations. Hence my original comment "over 1 million or almost 2 million (depending on who was speaking)."

There are a handful of new 22-24 Lariats showing in the 50's. Here is a MY24 recently listed...

Ahhhhhhhhhh you must not have ever encountered a New Jersey car dealership before. Lots to learn here. Much luck lol.

Every possible rebate included in the price. The truck is ~$72k. Everyone qualifies for the Ford rebate.

Don't know if Tesla officially "published" a number, but high-ranking Tesla execs publicly claimed "over two million" Cybertruck reservations in October 2023, shortly before the official launch:
As early deliveries for the Cybertruck are making their way to initial customers, one Tesla executive has highlighted the vehicle’s strong demand by noting that it has received over two million deposits.

The Tesla Cybertruck made an appearance on Jay Leno’s Garage on Monday, featuring discussions and a test drive with the automaker’s Head of Design, Franz von Holzhausen, and Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy. While the talks covered a wide range of topics and interesting details, von Holzhausen also confirmed that Tesla has received over two million deposits for the Cybertruck.

If you click on the "Jay Leno's Garage" link in the quote, it should bring up a youtube video of the episode. Franz mentions "over 2 million deposits" at about 10:30.
