Do you think Tesla should honor original reservation price?

You’re right OP. Most think the price increase and range decrease on the Tri are unreasonable. It sucks. Finding someone to fight that in court is going to be an expensive challenge and take years.

If you were to win that individual lawsuit in year 2026 the CT price will probably be back down toward what was the expected 2021 production sale price +inflation. So Tesla would offer that to you and maybe pay a fine. Then they’d probably refuse to sell to you anymore.

Good luck.
...and while you're at it, make sure you don't show ANY interest in purchasing the CT nor keep your place in line in the meantime or it will imply a weak stance with your lawsuit during deposition. Good luck with that.

To OP: I bet you get mad after Black Friday, and the price is the same next Tuesday, even lower, the following weekend.

When shoplifters target Wal-Mart everyday, you:
Yes! Stick it to the MAN! After all, corporations are only in business for the greed.

When prices doubled on toilet paper during the scamdemic because of FOMO, you: We should hire a lawyer because they should not be able to increase prices so high.

Supply/Demand...if Tesla currently has 3 million reservations, because interest has increased exponentially to a very high power in the exponent position of how growth equations work, then you SHOULD expect prices to only increase for a good while, until demand decides not to pay the premium prices.

Relax, the formerly $135k, Plaid that beats $3.5 million Bugatti's and $3.6 million Koenigsegg's is down to $90k currently. $45k lower. Just be patient for a few years, and drive the Prius, which I have had 2. They are great.

The price hike in addition to market anticipation IS the result of all mentioned. Remember, It's $100 reservation fee not an entire downpayment. I've been part of bussinesses that succeed and fail to make the hard decision such as this. Tesla is not a charity organization. Good luck on your purchase if you chose to.
Irrelevant to my comment.

I would never want to be your customer, because I would always have to assume you were taking advantage.

But thank you.

yeah it looks even worse for you if you were aware prior to the purchase and then tried to re-sell... you can't argue that you weren't aware!

Failing your price estimates by 50% is how the SEC gets involved.

Putting forward prices you knew you couldn't make would be fraud.

Exactly. Besides the to-be-determined legal responsibility, I think Tesla won’t want itself to have a reputation of giving customer pre-order price that being off by 60% and showing no interest to honor it. It worked at 2019 when people really thought it has the ability to provide substantially attractive price and fulfill it because of its uniqueness in technology & manufacturing. It won’t work for the next product. Customers/investors won’t believe the claim Tesla make anymore and it is not a good outcome for Tesla even it successfully dodged the responsibility of honoring the price proposed by itself.

Remember TSLA as of today has a P/E ratio of 78.41. How much of it is based on the belief that it could execute so well that most of its competitor(like Ford who has a P/E ratio of 7.15) couldn’t beat it on manufacturing cost and eventually lost the competition?

I’ll say maintaining that belief is much more important to Tesla than not to lose too much money on these early CT reservations. Just as a ballpark estimation, the price difference $30k on dual motor AWD multiples by 0.5 million reservations before Tesla remove the preordering price(I don’t know the exact number) = 15 Billion dollars. That is about 0.02 change on that P/E ratio.

Are you really THAT naive? even in 2019 those prices were outrageously low and not where market was even for ICE trucks!
good luck with class action! ?
Yeah, amazing that after the highest inflation period in 40 years they think prices should not change.

Soon, it will be similar to Venezuelan price increases: "What do mean $954,000? I thought you wanted $39,000, just a few years ago. I will get a lawyer to stop the madness." LOL.

To OP, what do you say to dealers that have $50,000 mark-ups on certain models? Try to buy a Raptor R at less than $160k right now. People pay $230k for the 911 Turbo S that merely ties a Cybertruck to 60 mph all day long. Those buyers are already driving this market up as buyers now.

Yup. Market price is fair price. Otherwise, ebay bidding should be illegal too.
