Cybertruck's Safety?

Hello again, everyone!

I really appreciated all the helpful insights on my last post. I promise I won’t flood the forum—this will be my last question for a while! As I mentioned, I test drove a Cybertruck recently and absolutely fell in love with it. I'm fully planning to make the purchase next year.

Since my last post, I’ve been trying to find solid information online about the Cybertruck’s safety, but it’s challenging to get reliable answers without running into a lot of trolls on the internet calling it a death trap. I have already reached the conclusion that researching this truck online is a lost cause as a result. Since it hasn’t yet reached mass production, I know it hasn’t gone through official third-party safety tests. Luckily, it seems crash data within the community is minimal so far (knock on wood). I don't expect anyone here to have sure fire answers but wanted to get your opinion.

For context, I currently drive a 2016 F-150 Lariat, and I’m curious to know how you all feel the Cybertruck stacks up in terms of passenger safety, especially since I have two young kids. Any insights from those familiar with Tesla’s approach to safety or the Cybertruck’s design would be greatly appreciated!

All other Teslas are the top of their class in regards to safety. The CT has all of the same safety technology that those do plus it's size/mass.

It's 100% safer than a 2016 F-150 based on technology and new safety standards alone.

It has batteries and therefor has the remote chance in the right (wrong?) kind of situation to catch fire (3 of 35k cybertrucks have been reported to have caught fire) all in accidents of some form or another.

It is well 'armored' so the damage of something going through it is very low.

The windows although not bullet proof are very sturdy and will not let much actually break through them. The misnomer about emergency crews not being able to get through them is also crap. I talked to our local fire department last night and he told me they are familiar with double filmed windows and just cut through them. None of the smashing and peeling crap you see online.

From the accidents we've seen it does do a lot more damage than it takes. AND if you've watched WhistlinDiesel or HeavyDSparks you can see the kind of punishment it can take. Those guys destroy everything and the "frame broke in half" is crap too, only the hitch broke out of the aluminum cast mounts.

Tesla has always shined in crash safety and occupant safety.

The chances that they faltered on the CT are very very slim. They've put out a couple teaser crash test videos but nothing comprehensive yet.

This is a new construction as far as body to chassis so a lot is left to be seen.

The thing with the hitch collapse maybe actually be a result of additional safety not seen regular pickups.

The thing many people don't understand about steel vs aluminum is that steel is mailable and aluminum is rigid. I've bent a steel hitch assembly wheeling and impacting a big rock. It didn't break off (as the aluminum fractured then was ripped off) but it was all bent out of shape and would have failed in a towing scenario.

Likely had a user tried to put a trailer (of any weight) on it after the impact it would have broken straight down when the weight was fully put on it and not made it out of the driveway.

Keep in mind that there’s safety in regards to people inside the vehicle and safety in regards to people outside the vehicle. As a large, heavy vehicle with limited visibility, the Cybertruck will be more dangerous for people outside the truck compared to smaller Tesla sedans.

But Teslas tend to be better about people outside, because of the autonomous driver assistance systems, which Tesla competes highly with the most in the world.

They will not stop every collision, but they will constantly be updated. Use them, pay attention, and be safe. You 2016 will be blind in comparison.

The Cybertruck is most likely extremely safe, but you will have to go on trust. It has not been safety rated.

Due to its current low volume sales, both NHTSA and IIHS have stated they have no plans to test and certify its safety.

It's the only bulletproof production vehicle in existence. How much more safety are you looking for?

That is not true, IIHS has data on the death rates per vehicle. There are a lot of vehicles with lower death rates than Teslas. That doesnt make Teslas unsafe, but statistically they are not the safest.
