I would GUESS it would take a bit longer than that to get a 2025 VIN, but who really knows! You could possibly get some idea by checking the Inventory page on Tesla to see if they show up there? Check Florida and I think Texas zip codes as they were two states that I thought showed inventory when I looked-but there were possibly more-I didn’t check! I used 33139 for Florida.
There were two onsite earlier today (within 25 miles of 33139) and two more they would deliver to that zip code (but one of them disappeared a few hours ago).

But all three of these are Foundation Series with the higher Foundation pricing. Tesla doesn't list any inventory for current production, they are shipping them all over the country to fill existing orders.

I was just assigned VIN today, build # 50,8xx and it is still a 2024 VIN.
Oh, wow, thanks for reporting! Tesla really surpassed their first year production target, right? Didn’t they think only 50k first year?

Depends on how many were built/delivered in late 2023 but yes it appears that they will have built over 50K units in 2024 for sure.

I know some want a 2025 VIN, but as I don't anticipate any real changes I'm not too concerned about it.

Does it make you feel better to have the 5 at the end instead of the 4 ?

Again, VIN number does not equal the number built. They built 22,292 (approx) through Q3 including 2023 CTs and were in the 30,000 range VIN number.

So, wait, I thought all of the cybertrucks up to this point had been 2024. I didn’t realize the ones that were delivered in calendar year ‘23 were ‘23 model year. What is the letter designation for ‘23 on cybertruck VINS?

They were still 2024s, I believe. I'm not sure, just speaking to the total number.

OK. Thanks!

So to that point, I’m not trying to argue with you - because I really don’t know - but from everything I’ve seen, I think that since they didn’t do a change to the model year that the VIN numbers are a pretty close approximation of the number of cars manufactured.

For example, you mentioned through the end of Q3 what the number was and I can tell you that my vehicle was manufactured somewhere around the third week of July no earlier than the second week and my VIN number is around 25,000. That’s pretty close to where they were in terms of total production. And while that usually is not the case, I don’t think they’re a whole bunch of VIN numbers that separate the number that you get to the number that they’ve made.

If I’m wrong, please disabuse me of this misapprehension. What am I missing?

Yeah, for better or worse, it does!
I get this. And I see that this is not your first Tesla so you know as well as I do that you kinda have to adjust your thinking. But generally speaking yeah I don’t wanna buy a car near the end of the year and have a 2024 when I should be rolling around in a 2025 even if the difference between the models is minimal or even nonexistent.

And for those saying Tesla never does model years they’re strictly speaking wrong.

When Tesla revised the M3P I had one of those right out of the gate, probably the first in my city and I took delivery in December 2020 and it was definitely a 2021 model! Kind of exactly like you would expect from a traditional OEM. It was all about those Uber turbines! Loved that car still like that design better than the new M3P!

I believe Tesla started the production line on 6 November 2023 with the 2024 model year Cybertruck. And now, since, again I believe, 14 November they are making the 2025.

Just check the board. People were getting VINs in the 30,000 range in August. At the end of Q3 Tesla had made 22,292 total. This number is from DMV registration, recall, and Tesla's reports (doing the same with S/X as they are bunched together). The Vins for every recall have been short between 6-8k. It looks like Tesla ditched a bunch of VINs, maybe bad trucks? maybe it's not sequential? Who knows, but every single time we get a confirmed number, they are short and it's growing. 50,000 VIN may equal 40,000 trucks made at this point but probably less.

That's still a lot of trucks being made.

Edit: Even by your number 25,000 in July...that's the beginning of Q3 and at the end of Q3 they made 22,292 total (including 2023). The VINs are not a good measure of how many made, obviously.
