I recommend people really the examine glass on the truck. Waviness and areas of clear distortion are a potential issue down the road. Not just a Cybertruck issue. Glass is a unique structure of to keep it simple "stuff". Each one is different and unique. Basically nothing is perfect in life. A careful look at things like this, and a note in the service visit might save some nervous moments later.
I doubt they'd replace it before it failed, alas.

There are lot of reports across the internet of people claiming Tesla declined warranties because of tints. It hasnt happened to me. As far as proof goes? They are free to claim its the cause and to fight it you would need to go to arbitration.

The theoretical reason tint would break glass is: The energy from the sun doesn't just magically go away with tint. It is captured in the glass and heats it up. With darker tint the thermal expansion of the glass can causes stresses that break it.

From the Cybertruck warranty documentation: https://digitalassets.tesla.com/tes...rtruck-new-vehicle-limited-warranty-en-us.pdf
That is not the law.

The law states they have to prove that specific installation was the cause of the fault. Not some theoretical chance of a fault. Besides, it's nonsensical; the edges are black and the inside could be very warm. It has to be able to survive greater temperature differences normally.

And no, arbitration causes are not an out for them here.

Hold manufacturers to the law. Do not let them avoid responsibility.

Tint = crack.
This is not completely true. I have 4 Tesla's, 3 have had the roof and windshield tined and the 4th is scheduled to in a week, Not counting prior vehicles that have had windshields tinted. I live in South Florida which has some of the hottest and strongest sun in the country outside of maybe parts of Texas, Arizona and Nevada. I've never had any of them crack at all, let alone from sitting in the sun. My windshields have always been tinted at 50%, which is darker than most people do by a good margin, most go for the 80% or the 70%.

Now I'm not saying that it's not possible that tint could lead to it cracking ever, but I wouldn't also just spit out there that getting it tinted is going to make it crack. That is not factually correct.

I don't think so, impact points usually have a ton of small pieces that reflect more in the horizontal direction. That simply could be the origin point of the crack.

I agree with you. I am just advising OP of resistance Tesla has provided against replacing tinted glass, according to other customers. Its important to know what you are up against.

I would 100% remove the tint before submitting the windshield to tesla for a warranty replacement. Why take the chance?

Tesla now is promoting Expel for tint. I wonder if there will be a Cyber-clause…

that is the worst excuse I have heard for cause of shatter. you can walk on it, but don’t tint it… really?!

Please read above. This guys windshield wasn’t tinted as well as the fact that tint does not crack windshields normally. I believe that to be a rare edge case.

How about using an aftermarket roof, have a nice chat with the manufacturer of the Aptera’s solar panels.

Oh yes, I noticed a very slight windshield distortion about 4 inches wide and pencil thin in the middle almost down to the hood, out of driving view, but definitely causes a wavey distortion when you look through it. I took it to my local service center and they took pictures and noted this distortion, but I insisted that they do nothing until it either cracks or won't pass inspection, (no need to disturb this beast just yet, absolutely nothing else wrong with it) and the service manager agreed.

I had the same issue on last summer around month of June. One month after I got the C T.
The the glass tech on the service center inspected and told me, it could be an impact as hit with a ring on the finger. I had not tint and the C T, and less than 700 miles on it when it happened.
Since I talk to the service rep on the counter, he had realize the fact, and covered under the warranty.
