Tesla Cybertruck Is this “new siriusxm technology” fake? 1735026368953-

SXM claims they have some type of “brand new technology” for accessing their radio in the holiday update. Is there actually some brand new tech or is it literally just internet streaming but you have to pay separately for your Tesla? Would have asked on the TMC but my account is too fresh to make a post.

This is internet streaming (as they state). The new tech is that they give each car a unique Radio ID so they can charge you $9.99/mo. You can't use any existing account and you have to create a new one. If you already have a SiriusXM account with internet streaming, you can run Sirius XM on the car's browser too.

Lmfao, they put together the worst part of satellite (radio ids) and streaming (ip streaming instead of satellite) and expect you to pay $25/m for it (3x the price of Spotify!). They’ll dangle their (annual) $5/m plan in front of you and hope you forget about it so they can hit you with a $300 bill next year (since you can’t reset your radio id, you can’t get the new customer price again). I wonder why people still pay for this company to treat them like shit.

This “new technology” is “you get to pay for a new SXM service”. Probably part of the legal agreement to include their app. I have a streaming account but don’t even use it since Howard went flaccid, so yeah I won’t be using Sirius in my ?. Many more options, competition is a beautiful thing.

I'll pass on this as well but I had it on several previous cars. Whenever I'd have the intro offer or whatever special deal near expiration, I'd call up to cancel. The rep would go on and on to save my account as a loyal customer  and eventually end up letting me continue the promo for 1 more year. I'd set a reminder on my phone and repeat the process each year.

I have SXM streaming and on boat.

No need to get specific car registration as just stream in through browser or directly through phone.

SXM app on CT will not integrate with existing accounts and requires entirely new account...no merging allowed...I asked...??

As much as I agree with you on thier attempts at idiocy, you can get the $5/month every year. You just tell them you want the $5/month or you will cancel. They always do the “let me talk to my manager” and make you hold on the phone and then give it to you. I have been doing that for years.

At some point, if you have a lifetime subscription, some of us old time XM Radio owners have this, will be transferrable.

Well not really...

Many of the streaming "stations" absolutely suck. They pick 30-50 songs and just keep rotating them. Apple is horrible. Not to mention with Apple, if you have more than 100 songs in your play list, it rotates the first 100 (its a bug in their web site that Tesla screen srapes that Apple refuses to fix even though they have 1000s of complaints). Pandora is really bad at curating their stations. I cannot speak for Spotify as I don't use it. But I did use the Tesla radio and it had the same problem, picking 30-50 songs and just randomly shuffling those around. SXM actually can allow you to choose a station that curates good variety with 100s of songs. Until these other "radio" streams can get their crap together, Sirius will have a place.

Additionally, the SXM streaming is pure crap. Its major "technical" advantage in the past is its satellite access. As a person who lives on the brink of back country that has no cell coverage, satellite radio works nicely for me. But once its streamed over the net, it has 100% lost its allure technically.

I will agree SXM's life is limited. If they transition to pure streaming and the other companies can get their curation in order, then they won't have reason to be around.

Very stupid on SiriusXM's part. Just let existing SiriusXM streaming customers sign in, otherwise we are just going to use the app as we did before.

Most people don’t do that though, you can do that same trick with your internet bill, why don’t you? It’s cause you didn’t know about it. Plus with satellite you could just visit your dealer and get the teenager working the front to renew your trial for free.
