Perhaps they are able to shoot the rain drops before they hit......It's interesting, this patent seems focused on debris. While wipers do clean debris off windshields, some of us who live where it rains. This doesn't seem to help with rain at all. I certainly can't see lasers powerful enough to keep my window clear during a squall.
I'm not sure what the point is if it can't deal with rain.
I could see during a light rain, but when I'm going 70MPH in heavy rains, there are quarts of rain hitting my windshield per minute. A laser isn't going to be able to manage that much water.Perhaps they are able to shoot the rain drops before they hit......
Or pacific coast seagulls......I'm picturing some of those dragonflies I've hit. Or the time I went through Utah when the grasshoppers were swarming.
Rain IS debris. 10 years ago you would have said "battery powered cars will never be practical" right? hmmm Just because YOU can't imagin it dosnt mean its not possible. It's interesting, this patent seems focused on debris. Importantly, this can probably be set up to clean off all of the cameras. Including the ones that the human drivers wouldn't think to wipe clean every day.I imagine it would be used for bug guts, bird poop, tree sap, or anything else that you would need a squeegee to remove. Although, it would be cool if it could vaporize the rain before it hit the windshield!
Oh, and bring you own fondue chocolate for an afternoon snack.I'm picturing some of those dragonflies I've hit. Or the time I went through Utah when the grasshoppers were swarming.
