Noticed this new option on our model x navigation menu and wanted to see if someone could explain it.

So if I have free supercharging but plug into one of these, how do I get charged?

Billed to your Tesla account, I believe Tesla covers the 1st time you charge at a 3rd party SC.
Well that is a bummer I didn’t know about and have to be careful of.

Same goes for destination chargers. It used to be that if you see a Tesla L2 charger, it would be free. Not anymore. I've been charged many times at destination chargers while I could've charged for free a mile away at a Tesla SC. I have had FUSC since 2017 so it's automatic plug in without thinking about charges. In the grand scheme of things, the total amount isn't that much, just a surprise.

Yeah. I’m the same way. Had it since 2016. The option kind of surprised me. So you get charged for plugging in at a hotel now too? Good to know.

Yes. Quite a few are now linked to the Tesla network. The old HPWCs were just dumb connectors. I think the newer HPWCs are wifi-enabled so they can connect to the Tesla network to collect fees.
Edit: thinking about it more, the HPWCs don't need wifi. It could be registered as a fee-only connector and since the car has cell signal, charges can be sent to Tesla.

So now it’s, mostly-free unlimited supercharging. You changed the rules mid-contract fuckers.
Bet you when they are spacing the superchargers on a map it won’t matter which are Tesla owned and therefore free and which are purchased by someone and therefore not.
It’s a minimally impactful thing for me honestly, but it’s another example of how you can’t trust a thing that Tesla tells you because it could change at any moment. The FSD language is also quite different now than when I bought it for the first time for $3k in 2016.
I bought it thrice more after that always knowing that the “lifetime” and “future hardware and software” and “autonomous” part was bullshit.
I think there were however a lot of people who didn’t clearly understand the arrangements were changeable by Tesla at any time.
They should be footing the bill for people with free unlimited lifetime supercharging who plug into these if they are going to require payment to the owner.
There is an almost zero chance this is happening but they are probably at risk of some legal beagle taking them to court over it.
What if they changed their business model to all third party owned superchargers? They are no longer required to give me free supercharging?

They didn’t change the rules. The white labeled chargers technically aren’t Tesla chargers. Free supercharging still applies to Tesla branded chargers.
But it’s unlikely that two superchargers will be close to each other whether Tesla branded or not. So there will be scenarios that may force or at least favor use of a paid supercharger.
I’m known to my friends as a chronic Tesla apologist so we are on the same team here but this wasn’t the arrangement.
You see, Tesla isn’t getting paid for charging at these superchargers but they are getting paid for the supercharger so indirectly, I’m not getting it from them for free any more.
If I told you that you could have a lifetime of free ikea meatballs and then said that some ikeas will no longer serve them but allow a third party food service provider to sell them in exchange for a fee and/or rent, would you think my meatball contract was being honored?
Personally, I’d see that as a weaselish way for IKEA to renege on my meatball contract.
Btw, I didn’t know level 2 destination chargers are now paid too. Is this the case for people with free supercharging too? And if so, is it significantly less per kWh than a fast dc supercharger?

I don't understand what "white label" means in this context?
Think of a Costco example. Costco sells Grey Goose vodka but also a Kirkland branded vodka.

The Kirkland branded vodka is rumored to be made by grey goose (for this example let’s pretend that’s true).

The Kirkland version is white labeled.

Tesla is selling superchargers to any business who wants to have them on their property. These chargers will not be Tesla branded but will be serviced by Tesla.
