Weird thing. Driving back to Phoenix from Bisbee yesterday, my wife was doing her crossword in the passenger seat as the sun set. At some point her overhead dome light came on. She thought I did it and absently said "thank you" without looking up. After some discussion, we realized it just...
I keep the camera app up when driving so don't experience the issue with the rearview going away when turn signal is activated. The only time I miss mirrors is when I am backing my trailer. Since the side cameras are flush, I can't see it and the rear camera is not very helpful either. I end...
This will make the dealerships happy. Yay. When I bought my Lightning, it was clear that the dealership hated it (and all EVs) and was just selling it because they had to.
No. But I would be excited if Tesla decided to open up the existing range extender hardware to after-market. We know the truck is wired for it. Let after-market develop the range extenders whether more battery, gas, hydrogen, or squirrels it would enable some really cool upgrades.
One benefit I see is it enables you to charge the truck from solar (albeit slowly) if you are camping or otherwise off-grid for an extended time. I have a similar setup for this (but not as cool looking as the OP).
The outlet does stay active when driving so that's not it.
It's just not for everyone. My wife won't even use cruise control! My daughter got a hand-me-down Model 3 with FSD and, although she isn't overtly against it, I have not yet convinced her to use it.
I, OTOH, won't buy a car without it. It is the primary reason I traded in my F150 Lightning...
Do you just lay them flat on the ground? I agree the output voltage is better optimized for the latest PV power stations like the AC300 (60V is the new standard) but I couldn't figure out a good way to deploy them at a good angle.
I have to turn off FSD for US 60 in the Phoenix valley. Truck keeps going back and forth from thinking the speed limit is 65 mph to 60 mph and back every half mile. I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't think it would get me shot.
Could this be the meaning behind the "Hands Free" messages I've been seeing? It's pretty much always hands free so I found these messages confusing. Maybe it means "Hands [and eyes] free"?
A lot of good suggestions but many are address-able after-market so wouldn't push me to buy a new truck. My list of things that would make me consider replacing the truck are:
Hide the wiper solution (currently BAW) when not in use
Move the rear camera off the tailgate (maybe to the left...
So I tested this out yesterday and it does look like a viable work-around. I set the charge rate to 15A and programmed it to charge for an hour every three hours. Was getting 85% efficiency.
The first charge at 9:30 got interrupted when I went in the truck to look at the settings. I had to run...
Thanks for the suggestion, @hemiarch!
I decided to grab three of those 400W Allpowers since they are a LOT cheaper than the 350W Bluetti and did a comparison. Despite my confirmation bias really wanting to come up with a good reason to pay the extra for the Bluetti if I had it all to do over, I...
It would be nice if Tesla gave us better scheduling options (like multiple charging windows). Then something like this would, indeed, work. Bluetti seems to be actively updating the firmware - I have had two updates already since buying the unit. I opened a service ticket with the SOC control...
You only need bluetooth to configure it - it has a timer function. So no need to keep a wifi connection. Also, my phone doesn't get service where I hunt.
So... I guess until Bluetti provides a firmware update allow me to set the SOC at which the system turns back on, I will need to add one of these goofy devices to restart it on a timer while I am away from camp.
I ran a couple experiments the last two days. Charged overnight at 240V/10A and again at 240V/5A. Compared those to a prior 20A charge. Mongo is (surprise) right - doing the math it comes to about 500-700W power being wasted just to charge. So 1300W in will be only 50% efficient.
I tried...
