Right, Elon came in at day 2.
Marc and Martin had PROPOSED an electric car and defined the architecture and most importantly started the work on sourcing of necessary components.
When Elon was brought in as an investor no actual engineering design work had been done. Tesla would have struggled...
Rivian is the only one that is real competition to the CT. As far as I know Rivian is still constrained on their production capacity whereas Tesla have already acknowledged having 200M in unsold CT inventory going into Q2.
So you know for a fact that the 30 you saw weren't sold? That's weird because Tesla normally doesn't ship inventory to delivery centers just to store them there.
Demand for the CT is soft. That's a combination of things some of which include the very high cost, the limited range when towing...
That's not even close to correct. Tesla stated the initial planned production rate was 125,000 a year and they could then over time eventually grow it to a capacity of 400K units/year.
Just as the Model Y didn't instantly become the best selling vehicle in the world it will take quite some time...
I leased it because I suspected long term resale would suck. I got the "you got bent over but hey you got it before some other people" November 2024 deal after foundation series ended.
Oh no, someone doesn't tongue bathe the Cybertruck... they must be a plant.
Have you had someone give you a nazi salute in an upper middle class neighborhood because you are driving a Cybertruck and you just laughed and waved at them?
I don't think you need to opine on how "sensitive" I am.
It does drive just awesome... it's unlike anything else, especially with the drive by wire four wheel steering.
I've given people rides that are kind of in shock with what it can do, then they comment they would still never own it because of the unconventional look.
If CT sales numbers are terrible my hypothesis is that Tesla will start to reduce features in newer trucks so that the cost and selling price can be reduced. I also expect that poor sales performance will move up the time table for a model refresh which would normally happen no sooner than 3-4...
There's no question that it's a flop, and that's coming from someone who really really likes their truck even though I paid a premium for it.
Even before all the Elon/Tesla hate started the truck just had far too polarizing an appearance for most people to find acceptable.
On the plus side...
Elon should have the Tesla engineers add "deter" mode to the Cybertruck.
Use the same external speakers used for the horn but crank them up to 100dB and tune them to the frequency that causes people to feel nauseous.
