Since I’m still deciding if the tent is worth keeping or not, I didn’t want to get it nasty with a legit “field condition” deployment. I’m sure the fabric is just as water resistant as any other expensive tent. My main issues with it are removing + re-installing the truck’s Aeroflap trim piece...
Entry is easy as long as you are capable of getting yourself onto the tailgate. People who are unable to easily get on the tailgate should probably bring along a stepstool or something like that. I would say that getting in and out is easier with this set up than the ladder used for most rooftop...
I’ve had a CT for 6 weeks and last week the local SC installed a Basecamp tent. I was excited about the original camper (+kitchen setup!) announced years ago and like many CT early adopters can’t help myself when it comes to fun + innovative gadgets and toys. I was hesitant to get the Basecamp...
Yeeeeah it’s CRAZY tight between the tent and the side panels. Makes
agreed. If you look at the manual I uploaded you can get a feel for how much bedspace it actually takes up. Definitely more than I thought from the Tesla marketing.
Unfortunately, I have not tried any other rooftop tents to compare. I do think that the roof nest ones look super easy but they are expensive and crazy heavy.
Could work. I have a one up hitch mount that I keep as a backup for when my cyber truck isn’t available but I suppose I could always use it for this when I have multiple bikes and don’t want to take the tent off the truck.
Lol yaaaas! Is it crazy that one of my go/no go criteria for keeping this expensive tent is whether or not I can fit my bike in the bed while it’s installed? Still works at an angle , but multiple bikes will require tent removal.
Agreed - it’s tricky to reach and the standard wrenches they provide don’t make it any easier… a small ratchet wrench should make bolt removal much easier. That said, I am still concerned about the waterproof seal between that piece and the cab being diminished with one removal let alone...
Someone has to be the guinea pig! Thus far, positives are: fairly easy to install + remove from the truck as long as you can lift 90 lbs or have a buddy. Negatives are: campsite setup looks a little more complicated than I hoped (including removal of the “Aeroflap”)
Morbid curiosity got the best of me and I decided to buy the $3K Basecamp rather than wrap the CT.
Local SC did the install yesterday which was comprised of screwing 6 brackets into the correct vault rail holes and then screwing in two T25 bolts to secure the packed tent - that’s it. Based on...
Yes it’s removable - there are only two T25 bolts keeping it in place. However, it’s a little tricky to wiggle it out because of the angle and it weighs 90lbs. Not terrible, but worth considering.
Hi all, SC installed the base camp for me today (in reality the “install” involves just installing 6 pieces of tent frame holders in the right spots on the vault rail). I suspect that once there are more CTs in the wild and if demand for a $3k tent ever increase (big if!) end users will shipped...
