November 22, 2019 reservation holder here. I placed my $59,990 order as soon as I read the news. I had to read the MSRP and specifications 2X to make sure I wasnāt dreaming as I had just woken up.
My gut told me that a lower priced CT trim would be coming in 2026 and it was right on the money...
The $82k MSRP is the #1 barrier to entry for those interested in a Cybertruck.
With a median yearly income of $62k the Cybertruck is well beyond the reach of the average American.
VW leadership may have gotten nervous about entering the low volume BEV pickup truck space. The vast majority of reservation holders reserved the gas/electric option.
Maybe they are delaying production until SS battery cells are in volume production. They are the holy grail for mass EV adoption.
For $100 I think itās worth a shot. You can always return for a refund if it doesnāt live up to your expectations.

I read that the 1.8mm and 1.4mm SS panels need to be over bent from specifications because SS has a tendency to spring back once it's bent.
The Slate will probably MSRP for the mid to high 20's. Add some must have options like the large battery pack, power windows, etc. and it climbs quickly.
I don't see many buyers choosing the standard 150 mile battery pack which equates to roughly 110-120 of "real world" range.
Reservations say it all.
VW needs to drop the all electric version due to low demand and simply manufacture the EREV version. 500 mile range solid state batteries are still not a reality yet. The BEV option can be added later as battery cell technology advances.
The pitiful 150/240 mile battery range, lack of AWD and questionable value proposition are going to hurt sales. I do love the back to basics approach however.
