Obviously I was responding to Bridgeboy69 who was talking about Rivian financials like Tesla didn't have questionable ones in its early existence. People bashing Rivian financials are purposefully being naive or just new to Tesla.
So would the 50 kWh pack then just be forced to follow the 123 kWh packs degradation characteristics?
Faster Voltage Drop Under Load: As a battery degrades, its internal resistance typically increases. This means that when the battery is discharging (powering the motor), the voltage will tend...
That seems grossly oversimplified because you have to charge, cool, and deal with different degradation (cell voltages) in relationship with the *varying* main battery ages and miles (degradation) from new to old and getting older by the day.
Will a RE, if comes, just be a battery that is not...
I think most articles or videos early on from the first influences given access were told 50 kWh and that is what my below table is based on (see EPA column). Kyle OOS recent video thinks 40 kWh.
From a year+ ago, Chevrolet already has this idea on their Silverado. Picture below (orange outlined) has just 120v/20a
but there is a 240v/30a version too (GM rep mentioned in video below)...
It was nice that he pointed out the real-world scenarios where the problematic limits could be hit (especially with fatigue).
You glossed over what other truck manufacturers don't think the SAE specs are adequate and test beyond that. eg RAM ~11:10 in

NEWS: 294,250 battery electric vehicles were sold in Q1 in the U.S., Up 10.6% YoY, according to Cox automotive. EVs ranked by total Q1 2025 unit sales (with segment share %):
• Ford F-150 Lightning: 7,187 (2.4%)
• Tesla Cybertruck: 6,406 (2.2%)
• Rivian R1S: 5,357...
True for cars. I don't think the 'or trucks' was included in those conversations. There were several reasons they were shooting for 500 miles after all in the first place instead of 325-340 they do for cars.
ASIDE:
Companies (LGES) are making the other larger size of 4695.
4695s would only give you 20% (x1.2) better which is not close to a RE.
An interesting world in the CUV category tho (TMY, future R2, Mach-E, EV6, Blazer/Equinox, etc x 7).
We are in for some interesting times with batteries...
I wasn't 100% sure if they were accurate. If memory serves someone thought their connection to the extended range pack was for a rear drive motor or something. I think the service manual came out AFTER this video so that could be checked.
I was mainly pointing out the space aspect since they...
It was talked about and shown in this video teardown before Munroes.
Less than half full and seemingly done for safety and not pack expansion since no room for cooling and another group of cells.

R1S is the SUV of course so a pretty different type of vehicle.
AFAIK the CT is the only Tesla with 800v but it is still quite slow charging and has a smaller battery than competitor trucks (useful for V2H, towing, etc).
Telsa has redone the TM3 and TMY ("Gen2") but left many things the same...
Not try to ignore the tragedy overall here ...
FYI, A news station (link) reported that driver (non-owner) was driving with hands off the wheel which is illegal there.
[Aside: I can't tell you the number of times Tesla FSD gave me no notice and flashed red before turning off FSD. I always drive...
