I agree. Constant iterations can make it tough to get a used one. I've had a few people come to me and ask what they should look for when they were shopping for a used Tesla. I always advise them to get the newest Tesla they can find and tell them to look at the door plates to see when they were made. That's actually one thing I like about Tesla; they don't wait to fix a problem, gripe, or implement a cost-saving part/process until the next model year and instead iterate as they go.
You really have to know your history and what happened with them. For example our model Y was so early in production that it did not get the double windowpane glass and got no amber tail light blinker while my dad’s model y performance was one of the first to get that just a few weeks later. If you wanna model S the sweet spot happens to be mine - late 2023 has the best computer, best factory brakes (red caliper is a clue), everything but the ambient lighting.

I never really understood how old guys on Jay Leno’s show knew so much about various cars but now I understand I’ve just been here for most of the ride and have paid close attention to all of the developments and minutia.

His videos are by far the best available. Watched his story on the Mustang/Dark Horse, had me glued to the screen for the whole time.

He knows how to tell an entertaining story AND is objective, it's a rare combo. He has a podcast with a friend that works in high end car acquisition/sales. They often wax poetic about Mercedes-Benz glory days (Sacco era), Ferdinand Pïech, and clown on Subaru/Stellantis. If you want entertainment, just listen to a spreadsheet episode. Camisa has a 3000 car spreadsheet with every car he's driven and notes on it. Some are absolutely brutal. They

It's called the Carmudgeon show

A remarkable "walk back" to the first Tesla "ground up" vehicle. Now, 14 years later, it has indeed earned the "car of a lifetime" label. My CyberTruck is my first and last All-Electric vehicle. I will never go back to anything else and this video captures that innovation from the *first-hand* reviewer who experienced the evolution of Tesla.
