So that didn’t take long. I’ve owned the truck for about 60 days and an upstanding citizen let me know what he thinks of the truck…

I don't know what it was but it penetrated the stainless steel to scratch my truck... it doesn't rub off as easy as a like a finger print does ( that's funny ) the metal was damaged.

I still can't get over the expectations so many have had about Cybertruck stainless steel. Who hasn't had a lifetime experience with stainless steel utensils, flatware, tools, pots, pans, sinks, stoves, appliances and equipment? Which of these have ever maintained gleaming scratchless finishes? It is used for long-term durability in heavy use and retains the shine of raw metal without decaying and rusting away in the harshest conditions. If you don't appreciate the look of well-used stainless steel hardware then a bare Cybertruck will only bring you futility and frustration. ?

Im holding off on posting in other places until I file the police report tomorrow.
It happened at work I manage the Discount Tire store on Midway in San Diegio. It's really close to the sports arena and the air port in SD. I will post more after I talk with SDPD.
Thank you everyone

It's not about whether it can be fixed, which I hope it can. It is about someone that has so little respect for other people's property, or the rule of law, that they feel "entitled" to do such a gutless, cowardly act.

You can scratch the stainless with a simple green pad, so it shouldn't be a surprise to people that a key made of hardened steel would scratch it also.

However if it was an aluminum key there would be zero damage. In general I agree the scratch from even a hardened steel key shouldn't be deep.

I have a small scratch on the edge of my passenger side door - I'm not sure what made it. Guessing it was from a jewel on a friends ring somehow while they were putting stuff in, but not really sure. It's not actually visible to other people, so buffing it out would likely make the door look worse.
Quality keys are brass, cheap keys can be aluminum or steel, I've never seen a key made of hardened steel; generally they are a soft metal to prevent wear to the lock tumblers and make it easier to cut copies. Hardened steel is not a suitable key material.

Machine polishing all the panels in the same orientation will not make it look worse unless you have carefully cultured a particular patina that you want to maintain. When I polished an entire side of my Cybertruck it made it look better than new, it looks the best it's ever looked. If you like the patina, most of it comes back very quickly. I spent 10 minutes seeing if there was a hand polishing technique that was useful, with no luck. The hand does not move quickly or randomly enough to leave a consistent finish, you need a RO sander/polisher.

The exact look you get if you polish your Cybertruck will depend mostly upon the abrasive pads you use, and the particular random orbit sander (and sanding pad) they are mounted on. I've only spent a couple of hours experimenting, but the results were very encouraging. For the final finish I used Festool Platin 1000 grit metal polishing pads and it left a beautiful even satin finish without the obvious round 5mm diameter "scratches" of the factory finish.

Festool Platin 2 150mm (6") Abrasives - Lee Valley Tools

For the most uniform finish, your random orbit sander should have a dust extractor attached. A good extractor will also reduce the amount of dust you breathe.

Personally, the look of my truck is only mildly interesting to me, otherwise I would go hog wild and polish every exposed inch with the Platin 1000 pads. Eventually I will, but maybe not until next spring. But my main point is you can give your truck any look you want, it's all about how the microscopic surface texture reflects the light. Different abrasives and grits, different machines, and different pads will give you different looks. Don't be afraid, you can't really hurt it unless you do something really stupid, like using something far too aggressive. No angle grinders! ?
