[CT will be my first EV]

just got back from a family vacation dfw to port richie fl.

These are one way stats as i didn't log it on way back.

22 sienna loaded with family and luggage. 1081 miles total. Was on cruise at 73mph for 90% of the trip. Had to make 1 refueling stop. 18g tank averaged a little over 37mpg. Total fuel cost dfw to port richie $73.04 at just under 29 gallons used.

Looking at CT recharging video, it looks to be quite a lot more $ super charging the same distance and a lot more time. Is the charging vs fuel consumption savings only for home charging?

We travel in my Plaid, it's very convienient and easy, good range, charging stops average 15 minutes. It's far less $$$ than gasoline.

In that video I don't think the battery was warmed up at all (preconditioned) so he got the cold battery charging speeds. I also think that Tesla has the CyberTruck's system "held back" via software while they analyze telemetry for the first few batches.

On a road trip, you'll be 100% charged from your house, by the time you need to charge the battery will have preconditioned itself and you'll get the most optimal rate for the charger.

I'm not a tree hugger, I like fun and fast cars, but I do not see myself going back to gasonline cars now, they feel so old and dated compared to the Tesla experience.

Just wait and see, real world reviews from experienced Tesla owners will start hitting in a few months.

1081 miles. At ~450Wh / mile (based on some early videos - not definite as many things factor into this such as temperature, weight, speed, etc) that’s 486kWh of juice. At average $0.40 / kWh super charging that’s ~$200. So I’d say yes you are correct. YMMV when and where you super charge.

I have road tripped from San Antonio to Chicago, and many other similarly distanced travels. I have found immense savings in fuel costs (Model Y Performance and/or Model 3 Performance)

ABRP itself indicates that all of their Cybertruck profiles are in "alpha stage", so not necessarily reliable. Furthermore, they have profiles for Cybertruck options that haven't even been released yet ("Cyberbeast with Range Extender") or may never be released ("Cybertruck Rear Wheel Drive"). Seems like educated guesswork at best.

You will never move faster in an EV then that. So if you feel like you can’t stop multiple times and wait to charge you should stick with the Sienna.

I can't get 37mpg with our Honda CRV at any point, combine that with really low gas prices thats pretty impressive for a minivan.
Hardly any point being surprised that a full size pickup truck uses more energy though

My old man was the kind of roadtripper dad that would make us kids pee in bottle because he never wanted to stop for anything but gas. ??

roadtripping in an EV requires a bit more patience. It works for us tho because we always take el doggo with us and she needs a pee break/leg stretch every 2 - 3 hours.

if my dad was still alive there’s not a chance in hell he could handle an EV on trips. His head would literally have exploded…. Hahaha

Just checked some earlier roadtrips in our Model 3. Thankfully TeslaFi pulls the invoices from Tesla so I now have actual prices.
SantaFe round trip - 1800 miles $41 supercharging. Several free hotel stops over a week.
Texas 550 mile weekend in 2021 - $25, a couple of freebies at some point
Texas 500 mile weekend in 2022 - still $25
Same 500 mile weekend in 2023 - now costs $32
Having said all of that, I've also done several vacations where we haven't needed superchargers at all and have been able to rely entirely on free charging from the places we were staying at. So zero dollars to visit.

In other words, a Cybertruck probably won't match your Siena in terms of fuel cost -- but neither would a conventional full-size gas-engine pickup. You wouldn't get anywhere near 37 mpg with a F-150 V8 Crew Cab 4x4.

The Cybertruck is designed to compete with the F-150, not the Siena. And the fuel costs in that comparison would be significantly closer.

Yes. WAY MORE EXPENSIVE.
Fuel costs are nothing compared to the depreciation comparison of a mid level Toyota vs a CT. Let alone financing or opportunity cost of that much money in the CT.

Until the lower CT trims come out, CTs are compatible to high end exotics and or Raptors and TRXs.

Staying in locations that provide charging is huge. As is stopping at the superchargers that are in interesting locations to let family linger and explore. The stops are intentional, not just splash and go
EV roadtripping is a completely different experience.
