Seems like the solution is 2025's need to be available versus how to get rid of 2024's. In my area there are no 24's AWD versions in stock.
Your profile indicates that you are in MO. The only Tesla stores in Missouri are in the Kansas City and St. Louis areas. The Tesla inventory website indicates that 2024 AWDs are currently available for immediate pickup in both areas. As noted in post #240 above, this website now shows both Foundation and non-Foundation options (it used to show Foundation Series only).

You’re right, they totally could. Tesla could offer a variety of creative incentives or discounts to help customers buy 2024s. And then they could offer info and assistance to help customers claim the $7,500 tax credit for 2025s.

The interesting thing is that so far, Tesla seems to have opted for a different strategy: do nothing.

The 2025 Cybertruck tax credit appeared on the IRS website on January 2. And it was headline news at this forum, and everywhere else in the EV community, with one exception: Tesla.

Tesla must have known this change was coming, and they had plenty of time to prepare a response. But as far as I can tell, nothing at all has changed at tesla.com. The Cybertruck tax credit didn’t even rate a mention in Tesla’s X/Twitter feeds.

I can’t explain why Tesla is treating the Cybertruck tax credit like a non-event. Unless maybe Tesla knows something about it that we don’t?
They'll do that when the website is ready and they need to.

Until then, they're trying to not hurt the sales of 2024 remainders by guaranteeing a better price on 2025s.

Those whose income is too high for the tax credit won’t benefit from buying the 2025 model year. There should be enough buyers with the too high an income to get the 2024 model year. It’s likely that Musk has decided to build up inventory of 2025 before they are released for the $7,500 credit. Or perhaps, the new battery packs aren’t ready yet.

how do we know its the battery for sure? and if it is, why isnt it already $3750?
It's either $7500 or $3750.

The first gate is $3750 for battery assembled in the US (this is definitely the case for all Tesla packs). The second gate is $3750 for 60% minerals sourced from N.A.

They can only get the battery minerals second gate if the first gate made in the US gate is achieved.

If they source form N.A. but ship it outside N.A. to be assembled then shipped back here then of course they don't get anything, as well as that not making any sense.
Since Jan 1, 2024 Chinese components in the cell/pack make the vehicle ineligible for any credit under 30D (7)(B). The component and mineral percentages aren't even in play in that situation.
(7) EXCLUDED ENTITIES.—For purposes of this section, the term ‘new clean vehicle’ shall not include—
(A) any vehicle placed in service after December 31, 2024, with respect to which any of the applicable critical minerals contained in the battery of such vehicle (as described in subsection (e)(1)(A)) were extracted, processed, or recycled by a foreign entity of concern (as defined in section 40207(a)(5) of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (42 U.S.C. 18741(a)(5))), or
(B) any vehicle placed in service after December 31, 2023, with respect to which any of the components contained in the battery of such vehicle (as described in subsection (e)(2)(A)) were manufactured or assembled by a foreign entity of concern (as so defined).’’.

With non-FS 2024 inventory finally showing on Tesla’s website, here are my pretty much baseless predictions (aside from the 2023 Model Y mid-January price drop following a sales miss) as TSLA gets closer to earnings on Jan 29th and keeps pushing to move 2024 FS and non-FS VINs off the lots:

1) $5k price reduction on non-FS Beasts (aligning with $95K Plaid S and Plaid X prices)
2) 1.99% APR finance incentives for all inventory
3) 3 months free FSD and/or supercharging for non-FS Beasts and AWD

Let’s see how badly my post ages lol….

Just arrived! Stock has been intermittent for the AWD version. As of today looks like they have 2 in stock. As of last week they only had Foundation and CB. Will be interesting to see how long these 2 2024's stick around. I'm guessing not long.

MY 2 cents is that there is a likelihood that the new Administration might yank the EV credit on Jan 20, it probably will be awkward to advertise the EV credit and then sees it revoked while taking delivery in 2-3 weeks. Yes I know that the Congress needs to revoke the law, but the administration can make the current implementation harder for people to obtain the credit.

My expectation is that the EV credit will be displayed on tesla.com after Jan-20 if nothing is announced to change, that should open the flood gate and get Tesla a group of orders, before more incentives such as lower financing rate and free supercharging added to attract additional demand in mid-late 2025. It is not a bad idea to wait at this moment because the 30D IRA is uncertain and more incentives will definitely come simply because the current price point on the demand curve. Long term trend is to see price dropping and adding possibly a lower trim RWD.

But for some of us who just don't want to wait, by all means, grab one today!

The administration can not change the implementation without several people violating the law.

Wasn't the POS an executive order?

Besides, with an all Republican house, Senate, Justice and Executive there's no reason to believe it will likely end.

No.

Also the EV and battery manufacturers are split between blue and red states.

I don't think that matters much when Trump carries the weight to sway Republicans in Congress apparently. We could have had a border bill last year if it wasn't for Trump.

Please move the work truck argument elsewhere. I'm watching this thread for tax credit info.
