Yeah, the bed Plastic is some weird shit. It gets all discolored and won’t hold a finish. I’ve never seen this before

Check back in

I've been trying different products as well, especially on the wheel flares. I hate the water spots and salt from the winter on those. So far the one item that has worked for me is Cerakote

It makes it easy to just wipe off with spraaway, I've not tried it in the bed yet though.

Is it greasy? If you throw some dirt on it, does it stick?

Didn't seem to greasy to me not sure about dirt sticking. I'm scared to use cerakote pads for plastic trim it ruined my R8 plastic trim years ago made it milky and couldn't remove it without sanding.
I just used the spray and wipe, I applied a couple months back - one coat so far only. So far I don’t see any milky residue or change.

Just tried this today so far has been a couple of hours and hasn't vanished like other plastic trims dressings do. Any thoughts of course this is not the intended use so proceed with caution.

@Vipgelsi The results look pretty awesome.. I tried that VRP stuff thats supposed to be designed for this, it looked great but lasted a week or two and was gone. Hopefully this stuff lasts longer and sticks around for a while because It looks good. Can you report back updates every now and then so we can see how long it sticks around? Also, what part of NJ are you from?

Penetrol contains boiled linseed oil. Be careful when disposing of the used rags as they can spontaneously combust when thrown in the trash.

When in question simply ask GROK…does Penetrol harm plastic?

No, Penetrol (FloodĀ® PenetrolĀ® Oil-Based Paint Additive) does not typically harm the types of plastics it’s most commonly used on—in fact, it’s a popular DIY treatment for restoring faded exterior plastic trim.** However, the manufacturer’s official guidance includes a clear warning to avoid prolonged contact with plastic or rubber due to its solvent content.

REAL-World Use on Plastic
Despite the caution, Penetrol is widely and successfully used *directly on* faded black plastic trim, bumpers, cladding, and fiberglass (a plastic composite) on cars, trucks, Jeeps, boats, and outdoor items.
- The solvents help it **penetrate into the plastic**, replenishing oils/plasticizers lost to UV exposure and oxidation.
- Users report it restores color and luster better than many dedicated plastic restorers, with results lasting months to a year+ (reapplication may be needed).
- No widespread reports of melting, pitting, flaking, or irreversible damage when applied properly—many call it ā€œthe bombā€ for long-term good with minimal downside.

It’s often compared favorably to boiled linseed oil because it penetrates deeper rather than just sitting on top.

Umm what the hell just happened to OP/thread?
@devdrone6 Interesting.... So either he was a shill for the Big Penetrol corp or maybe the mods deleted him and considered it advertising without being a sponsor?? Or there's always the 3rd option that the penetrol combusted and destroyed his truck.

I just got a great idea! I’m gonna buy Penetrol by the gallon at $.21 an ounce and resell it as a new superduper plastic renewer at over $2.00 an ounce in a fancy smaller bottle, like others are doing…..šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜Ž and make a 1,000% profit.
