For the past month or so my CT has been making what sounds like bad bearings, coming from the front drive unit. I took it in to service and they confirmed the sound was not normal and that it was likely the front drive unit. I'm not sure if they mentioned it as being the inverter, motor or simply drive unit, but anyway...

Since the truck is not throwing any codes and performance isn't affected, I'm opting to keep driving it until it gives out. So far I've driven about 2,000 miles with it this way and it doesn't seem to have gotten any worse. Tesla service did make a note of the abnormal noise in my records, so when it does fail it will be covered by warranty even if it fails after warranty (in writing in the service notes).

Anyway, I was just wondering if others have come across a similar noise in their CT.

Sorry about the rattling jars in the first video.

I like my salsa and was on my way to work with it. :)

Yep, I have very similar sounds. I had a fluttering earlier on and Tesla replaced the front drive unit end of December. But since having it back, the fluttering is mostly gone but now I am hearing the sound you're hearing. I can actually hear it more as speed goes up. I need to go and record my sounds like you did. Mine isn't affecting performance/range either, just something in my mind that it's "just not right". I get having the truck gear/inverters, etc. making sounds, resonance etc. but this one is different. Going to keep an eye/ear on it to see if I need to bring into service. I have a tentative appt Feb 25 for other things, but they're minor, so not sure I'll take in. When I took in for flutter, they had it for 22 days :( and only worked on it for 3. Just sat there, so not really enthusiastic about taking it in again. I get it's a truck, truck sounds, etc. but still feel like some of these sounds should not be present. Will monitor to see if gets worse. (I'm a 46xxx vin, picked up in Nov.)

And then tonight, took a drive to potentially record some sounds, and it's one of those times where it's basically quiet and very much where I think the "sounds" should be. Go figure. 50 degree night here in central Texas, no rhyme or reason. Service would think I was super-ocd (which I am) and send me away if I had gone in today lol.

Be glad you don’t have the fluttering sound…. This is what mine sounds like

Can you share service notes from the front drive unit replacement? I’m having this issue and they won’t replace mine. Looking for example so they can see notes and fix mine.

Mine doesn’t get quieter with warming. It’s definitely louder now than a few weeks ago, but efficiency hasn’t been affected.

I have low rumbling sound when I accelerate from stop sign. It’s more prominent when I make a left turn. Tesla replaced front drive unit but the problem is still there. Another issue is when battery is getting preconditioned, the whining sound changes frequency/pitch at exactly 25mph. Everything else on the truck is so perfect. I hope Tesla can resolve the issues.

I love the truck so much. I’m not sure what to do if the issue doesn’t get resolved. It would bother me sometimes but the Truck is so amazing! I wish there was a better way to diagnose where these sounds come from! Trial and error seems to be costing a lot to Tesla!
