I currently have Powershare on my home (with no solar or batteries) but am in the process of building a new home which will be all Electric. & 200A Panel. My intention was to put in Powerwall 3's with Tesla Solar and have the Powershare backup but as we know still nothing from Tesla on this functionality. Going on the Tesla website the cost of a 25.2kW Solar system with 2 x Powewall 3 is showing as $80,000! (and I think I read somewhere else that they up-charge for a metal roof - it will be a 6/12 pitch Standing seam roof). A Span panel would be in addition to that. That is a lot of money for something that still doesn't work with Powershare. My Cybertruck is vin 13xx so very early and I have been waiting for the Powerwall option to be fully implemented since I got it in March 2024.

I know that I can install a 11.5kW solar system now with poweshare but no power walls. I only want to do this one time and have a home that can be self powered (living in Florida and having had power out for more than 2 weeks makes me want that.)

I am now looking at the EcoFlow Ocean Pro since it will provide whole home backup (24kW hybrid inverter)and will allow up to 40kW of Solar on 8 Mppts. (I probably don't need that much!. ). Taking to an Orlando installer the smart panel it has with the Inverter and 3 10kW Batteries comes to about $27000 installed - the solar adding 27-30k for a 25kW system - so a good bit less than Tesla. The Cybertruck can then be plugged in and provide 10kW to recharge the batteries like a generator - it plugs in to the Generator port.

I came on here to see if anyone else has gone down this route and get any other inputs from the experts we have here.

It would have been great to get an all Tesla system but 1. it doesn't work yet and 2. it is a good bit more expensive.

I would love to hear any and all thoughts on this option.

Can’t comment because I went the powerwall direction by my experience with Ecoflow has been nothing but positive. They make awesome stuff.

This is a sexy piece of hardware. I was looking at two powerwalls with expansion packs but this could do it all in one. Looks easy to add the solar later also (roof is about 3 years from needing replacement so its not time yet).

The economics should probably dictate the choice. Our house is a 1.5 story with 3600 sq ft. In June of 2021 I had Tesla install a 12.4 kW solar panel system with 2 Powerwalls. I love the system and it is grid connected so I get approx $1000/yr in rebates. The total system cost was $48K but there was a Federal Tax write-off of $12.5K that year, plus Tesla offered a 0.99% Interest rate on a 10 year loan. With $5K down the monthly payments are $350/mo which was approximately what I was paying my Utility for electricity. Having a home energy page on my Tesla App is really nice. All the data in one place that I use every day is fantastic. Tesla does software better than anyone including Apple. IMHO

We have 2 Tesla's that we 90%+ charge at home. Our electric bills average $50 month so when all was said and done, I got a great system at a great price. Back in 2021 Tesla was doing installs in my area and their prices were very competitive. It was really was a no-brainer decision for me and although we have had very few power outages, one lasted 24 hours and we didn't even know it had happened until we saw the darkened neighborhood. I had several neighbors use our garage fridge for perishables.

Needless to say, I'm a big fan of Tesla and Solar Systems.

One thing to be aware of - you don't need Tesla solar to have a fully functional solar system using the Tesla ecosystem. The Powerwalls are very cost effective (considering they have internal inverters and 13.5 kWh of storage), just get one or two of those (depending upon how much power draw your house has when forming it's own grid and how much solar you want to hook up to them) and then get the solar panels that are the best fit for your house. When Tesla releases the updated software you should be able to incorporate your Cybertruck into the system for additional storage. That last bit does come with a little uncertainty as to timing but I have little doubt it will happen.

I love the functionality of the system I recently had installed. Here in the P.N.W. the Silfab 440 panels made the most sense as they have great longevity and performance under lower light levels.
