I have to tell someone about my close call for today. I was testing FSD in a somewhat complex roundabout in a nearby town that someone had told me about. The Cybertruck did fine entering and traversing the roundabout. But as soon as it turned off the traffic circle it slammed on its brakes!!! I was shocked, but before I even had a chance to react, a pedestrian appeared in front on my left and walked directly in front of me! The left pillar of my Cybertruck had completely blocked my view of the pedestrian! She walked out in front of me with calm confidence, as I was all shaken up by my Cybertruck hitting the brakes!! Boy was I glad that everything worked out! But that experience raises another question… who would design a roundabout with a pedestrian walkway right where vehicles leave a traffic circle???!!! I can imagine a vehicle behind me smashing into my backend!

I was passing through a Home Depot once and almost hit a pedestrian. I always look both directions before proceeding through a crosswalk but this one time the A Pillar completely covered concealed the person, luckily they stopped. I felt terrible as it honestly looked like nobody was there. Now I always lean forward to peek around them because I am paranoid I will miss someone.

In your case, everyone is safe...that's the good thing. I know how scary that can be.

Yes!! Your diagram makes a lot more sense with the walkway for the exiting cars far enough away for the traffic to react! I should show that to the traffic engineers for the area I drove through. Thank you!

I just arrived to pick up one of the kids from basketball practice. Just updated today to v13.2.9 and used FSD on the way here to try it out on the dark and curvy country roads. Drive is going fine, but then the CT slammed on its brakes. Just as I was about to overtake and send another report, a “trash panda” appeared in the headlights in the middle of my lane. I was paying attention and couldn’t see it. I’m very impressed and glad I didn’t turn into oncoming traffic during this ride!

Great story - but more of a feature than a bug, I admit those A pillars are a bit larger than most and can block vision. BUT that's why I now trust FSD a bit more than my own driving. IT CAN SEE much better than I can.

I had a similar XP in my Y a bit ago when making a left turn at a stoplight - oncoming traffic had cleared and I was ready to turn but the car paused and just sat there --- as soon as I pressed the accelerator and started to turn a bike on the left hand sidewalk (in my blindspot) came barrelling throught the crosswalk/intersection. The car had paused for the bike I had not seen.

The roundabouts in my town have terrible crosswalks. I suppose the only good thing is people no longer walk, so not too often do you see anyone standing, waiting to cross.

The A-pillar is huge. Imagine if they didn't put that little triangle window in the corner. It'd be so much worse.

I agree totally with you on the design of walkway and roundabouts in US. There are few in north Lake Tahoe, like you described. Dumb design.

How is it going with those mirror removed? It does look much cleaner, slicker. But how do you glance up the side rear of the truck? Do you just turn on a blinker for that view?

Yea, blinker for review along with the red dot (and acceleration as needed  ).
..98% of the time FSD is engaged...I'm just hanging on..
