My friend’s 2-week old vision-only MX just got a software update and while it still doesn’t show numerical distances to the closest object, the visual display is pretty awesome. As an example, I preferred backing into a parking space because you could use the rear camera as opposed to guessing where the front bumper was. Now it shows you a synthetic overhead view to include all the parking stall lines as well as the vehicles and objects around you. So if see the truck with the hitch in front of you is within its stall, well, you won’t hit it if you stop prior to the front line.
Additionally, the auto shift is amazing. I thought it would just figure out the initial direction based on where objects were but it does much more than that. Say you want to do a 3-point turn and there are no curbs or obstructions. It will see you stop and then gives you a graphical prompt that if you turn the wheel in the opposite direction it will reverse direction. So you can do a 3-pt or a 27-pt turn and it authoshifts each time you stop and turn the wheel. It’s really handy.
Also the left and right turn signals under a single thumb are so much better than either a stalk or having the left on the left side and the right on the right side. I don’t have to move my hand or raise my right hand up when I want to turn right. It’s easy peasy and works great.
Finally, the auto park is amazing. You scroll the right thumb wheel and the icon will hop along all the open parking stalls, then you depress it to designate the one you want and it simply repositions as required and backs in beautifully.
