For good or for bad, I’m one of those weirdos that’s fiercely loyal to my cybertent. More accurately, I’m unreasonably and nonnegotiably committed to NOT putting a rack on my truck but I still love to camp.
For the most part our inflatable ground tent works great for this, but for dispersed camping, I’d like to have a solution where my wife and I can sleep in the Cybertent and I can put two kids in the climate controlled cabin.
The idea I’m trying to develop would be that I take the car seats out and put them in the bed and then set up a small bunk in the back seat with the seat bottoms folded up. This would hold my 7 and 4 year old.
My first idea was one of those disc-o-bed kid-o-bunk type things but it appears that’s about 4 inches too long to fit back there.

I then searched on our forum and found a couple of wooden board type designs which might work but they were honestly pretty clunky and hard to carry in my opinion. Refraining from linking because I don’t want to badmouth someone else’s project. If it works for them, great.
So I continued to scour the web and found this device called the cabbunk.

Seems reasonably modifiable for my situation. The bottom bunk would be directly on a mattress on the floor and the top would attach to the seats with a rod behind the headrests just like these guys do in the sprinter vans.
The part I’m struggling with is how to attach the front supports near the front seatbelts safely.
It certainly looks doable, I just wanted to hear from you all how you would approach this.
Here is a picture of how they intend for it to be attached in a van.
Any input would be appreciated.

Of course, if you have some other idea that’s better than either of these, I’d be delighted to hear it too.

Looks ok but is that a cloth cot? Any more pics? Sagging issues?

I've seen the inflatable bed for CT rear seat. Would it be okay for both a 4 & 7 year old?

Either way, most kids will sleep on anything! Good luck ??

I always thought about cutting a nice piece of ply to sit on the seat with a click into the seat belt attachment thereby holding the board in placed on top of the seat and stretching out forward to make the bed nice and wide. You still have storage under the ply bed and also under the seat as well. Put a foam mattress pad on it, a sleeping bag, and your set.

The key is the seat belt latches to hold everything in place. If you want it a little wider just move the front seats forward.

Good luck, I haven't done this but should I need it this is what I would do.
