Photos please.
So when the stud is as deep as it can go into the peg there is still a good length of bolt distancing it for the l-track.
No matter what the nut will always be there with this approach. Think I’m going to scrap that idea and try find a butterfly molle backer with an m8 hole and then maybe something like this.

Open to suggestions. Anyone got a better plan?

So. The screws I got for the l-track are too long but the pegs are about perfect. Back to Amazon.
I need to find an m8 l-track stud that’s only 0.5 inch long instead of 1 inch.
I think I'd be getting out the grinder ... or the recip. Too long is fixable. I love the smell of burning metal in the morning...

But I'm not sure I fully comprehend the issue. Even if the bolt was the perfect length, the nut would prevent the peg from pivoting? Sometimes you can find a thin nut.

The issue is as you say the nut. Not that it would prevent it from pivoting but from sitting flush in the l-trac. I want something more like this but shorterwith the peg itself acting as the nut so I can screw it down flush to the track.

Ok, so my knees aren't what they were in my 20's. I was taught that if you can put your knee there, you can put your foot there. But my days of bouldering are long gone. I now have trouble getting into the bed easily. Yes even in 'entry' mode. Had the same problem in my old Tundra too. So. I saw somewhere, probably on this forum someone built grab handles that mounted to the rack mount at the rear. I think they were carbon fiber, or 3d printed, or both. Problem is i have a roof rack. its not the OEM one, but i think in some ways this one is superior.

Got it from @RPM TESLA so kudos guys. it has 4 different length rails, rather than telescoping ones. The front one has my marker lights, tail lights, and deer whistles. I chose to remove the 4th rail as it blocks the use of the bed and i can't open the door of my fridge. I still keep the rail with me in the bed, so if I need it, its handy. only takes about 2 minutes and one tool to remount it, as i leave the roof mounts on and only take the rail. This leaves a good mounting point for a grab handle. I thought out several designs and finally simplified things. what i came up with is a motorcycle footpeg mounted to the inside of the roof brackets. it doesn't interfere with the rail if i want it on, and it stows facing forward, for minimal wind resistance.

I wouldn't say it was super sturdy, after all it's just a roof mount, but it seems to be all i need, just a little grab and pull to get me started. Anyhow, thought I'd share, as there could be someone in the same boat, err, truck, err, truck that floats?

I went to Home Depot and got that squishy rectangle kneepad thing that they sell. I leave that in the back of the truck. In addition, to get into the bed, I hop and sit on the tailgate and then roll onto the squishy thing to get onto my side and then stand up. This gives me a slight workout and also gets me into the truck without having to hurt my knees.

I am working through some L track handle ideas. See the photo below. There are lots of options, most are going to take a visit to your local machine shop... unless you have a milling machine and lathe at home. I was a little surprised there was not already some type of handle for L tracks on the market. (L track accessory manufactuers take note!).

The problem is that in the collection of handles you see below, there is a mix of thread sizes M8x1.00, M8x1.25, M12x1.75 and 3/8"x24. Almost none of these threads come together in any useful manner without the help of a machinist. The more traditional handles will not line up properly in the L track with drilling or widening their holes.

The last picture is the net sack hanging from L track hooks, I use it to hold my truck cleaning supplies and microfiber cloths. Very handy.

So my hardware arrived and I believe the combination I posted above is an excellent way to attach one of these to the L-track. The fit is seamless and it is easy to put on or remove. I put one just behind my tent bracket on the drivers side (by the tonneau control panel) and another on the opposite side close to the vault window so I can step on it and immediately obtain reach to the middle of the roof glass and beyond. If I rest my right hand on the passenger side sail panel I can reach the lightbar with my left.
Very handy positions for both. god….I can’t help myself with this dad joke stuff, I need help.
Thank you OP for the excellent suggestion of using a motorcycle PEG.
There are many ways to skin a cat but this is a good one. This is an American expression I have never fully understood but here I am using it. Why would anyone want to skin a cat?
Anyway, let me know if you have any questions.

Very nice! I didn't quite understand those dual-thread studs before now they make perfect sense!
