Just saw that also. Will probably pick them up but would still like to see something hard sided and better insulated. But these look very useful!
IMO, a hard cooler is better if you're going to use it secured in the bed of the truck, a soft cooler is better for the frunk. A standard 12-pack rectangular hard cooler fits in the frunk but it doesn't make the greatest use of space.

But, yeah, a lot of soft-coolers are not very serious coolers, they are only meant to maintain ice packs for part of a day. Just know, the thicker, better designed ones can have really good ice retention, especially if you put them inside a liner made of Reflectix. That dramatically improves their performance. Coolers get heavy when packed full of food, drinks and ice packs so I like my cooler to be as light as possible and be able to be carried with one hand, so I don't have to make a seperate trip just for the cooler.

The closest I've found to the perfect large soft cooler for the frunk is a large rectangular one from Polar Bear. I'm looking more for multi-day ice pack retention and ability to hold a decent amount of groceries (vs. a drink cooler). This cooler could function as a drink cooler, but it's not quite as easy to get in/out of compared to most coolers. It's a 13"x13x21" rectangular box shape. It won't suit everyone, especially those who value the most convenient access, but it's working well for what I need it for (transporting groceries). It's big enough that when it's full of groceries, drinks, and a couple of ice packs, it's about as heavy as most people would want to pack with one arm.

It pushes the limit of what the frunk can handle in terms of height and depth, so occasionally the frunk lid will reverse if it's packed particularly full or not scooted all the way back. This only seems to happen when the frunk safety reversal is feeling particularly sensitive. It's strong points are volume, ice retention is good for a soft cooler, and it leaves quite a bit of frunk space for non-refrigerated groceries that could benefit from proximity cooling.

I can envision a better one for my needs, but it would probably have to be custom designed for the frunk. The top would have a slight slope towards the front edge so it could be 14 or perhaps even 15 inches tall in the back sloping to 12" tall at the front corner and it could be an inch or two wider than 21".
I was thinking of getting the AO Cooler version, a little cheaper and same dimensions.

Did you get it? If you do, let us know how it fits and performs. I'm still pretty happy with the 48 can Polar Bear but it's only an 8 or a 9 out of ten, mostly because sometimes the frunk lid reverses if it's packed really full and opening/closing the cooler itself requires an extra step. But that feature is one reason why the ice retention is pretty good. I would love to know how the AO cooler performs. I have an AO cooler for my Model 3 and I love it!

For those of you wanting a nice frunk cooler with good thermal performance for day trips that fits efficiently in the frunk (only consumes a small portion of the available space) here's a heads up on a nice cooler at a good price (50% off).

I just picked up a Polar Bear Topper 30 and it's already sold out. But they still have a Topper 20 available (regular price $179) for 50% off with coupon code "2112". This cooler will fit longitudinally in the frunk so it only takes up 10.5" of the frunk's width and is just as tall as the Topper 30:

It makes good use of the frunk's vertical space by being 13" tall. I like the Topper 30 better because it fits the ice flat packs I already have and holds more (but the half-price sale caused them to sell out). I have to fit the Topper 30 width wise, so it takes up 15" of the frunk's width. Both of these coolers will keep your ice packs frozen longer than most common hard coolers. They are both light and easy to carry with one hand.

Just a "heads up", I have no affiliation with Polar Bear Coolers (although I do think they make good coolers that actually work).

That's a cool retro-looking option, although I'm surprised it weighs over 12 lbs. for its capacity.

I studied the construction technology on Oyster's website, but it doesn't make sense to me. They kind of glossed over the type of insulation it uses by claiming "vacuum" insulated. But all the cutaway images clearly depict thin foam between the aluminum inner and outer. Or is it some kind of glass bead material with a vacuum in each bead? They don't elaborate at all!

It’s just aluminum with a good seal. But the ice packs keep it cool for days

I took this on a 15 hour road trip first week of owning the truck it beats my GIANT anker electric cooler and it beats my yeti portable by miles

Expensive but it fits great in front trunk and the ice packs keep it nice and cool ?

I'm not following, the website claims they use "vacuum" insulation. It doesn't seem possible to have a vacuum between the inner and outer aluminum. What am I missing?

I realize this is probably not what you're looking for, but I've heard good reviews from these.

They're a little large, but they fit just right which is nice. I don't think these have the r-value you're probably looking for.

I haven't read through the replies yet HA, but my initial thought is the best way to get easy measurements is that I could measure my tesla cooler and give you dimensions. It is a tight fit when frunk is closed (so tight it slightly rubs top front edge) so it should be really close to what you are looking for, dim wise that is.
