Buying inventory CT out of state

I live in Texas and came across a discounted 2024 AWD in NY. I had read online that many people have previously been able to purchase out of state inventory, receive delivery in that state, and then drive it back and register it in their home state.

A Tesla sales advisor told me that this ain’t possible and that I would need to receive delivery in my intended state of registration. Is he correct?

I am new here. I just purchased my 2025 CT in Tennessee and I live in Georgia. Distance is a bit different than yours but in principle it's the same. They told me it would take a bit longer on my registration but it can be done.

I wish Tesla would make searching the entire US inventory system, a little easier. I live in FL, and most of my vehicles have been purchased out of state. I generally fly out and drive back. Tesla basically makes you guess zip codes all over the country to search inventory. I did find a '24 with black interior and core wheels in NY as well, just as a guess. But it leaves me wondering how many other similar builds are all over the country, that may be easier to fly into or drive back from.

Buying vehicle out of state is done everyday. I purchased both my Tesla’s in Fl then registered them La (can’t take delivery of Tesla vehicles in Louisiana). if Texas and other state (NY) don’t have a sales tax agreement, you will have pay sales taxes in both states. If agreement is in place you are able to deduct amount of sales paid in other state from amount due in Texas.

I spoke to a few different Tesla reps in both Austin and Oklahoma and after some investigation, they both found that the 2024 all-wheel-drive cyber trucks for $71,990 are all region locked and cannot be moved or purchased out of state…

they’re trying to direct me to a 2025 with over 3,000 miles on it instead. No thanks..

Is the 2024 Truck you want not showing up on the Tesla Inventory page with your Zip code and selecting “All Deliverable”?

The SA over phone told me the same, that it cannot be from out of Texas (Where I live). But I was able to order two different CT from out of state through their website. One from Florida and the other one unknown but it had to be freighted.

That’s interesting. It’s not showing any new 2024s with my ZIP Code in Austin. When I go to Tesla-info I can find the dozen or so 2024s around the US, but entering my ZIP Code for delivery says it is not available.

Which cyber trucks were you able to buy from out of state in Texas? The sales advisor told me they were unable to put in a move request for the ones I was interested in.

Sorry, I should have specified that the trucks I’ve order were all Foundation Series.

I also had an instance when the SA over the phone could not locate the Truck I was looking at on the Tesla Inventory page, and was asked to send the link, to which the SA was able to locate it after linking him.
