Out of state delivery

Reading briefly. For out of state deliveries some states require other docs. Tesla has to submit those docs to the states. Washington State specifically is surrounded by many states that don't have sales tax.

Had to provide proof of residence. Which included the deed to my home, and a credit report showing that it appeared on. After All my drivers license doesn't match what I want to do. Tesla will work with you. Yet they want proof depending on states docs. I can attest to having 4 Tesla's registered in 3 different states.

For those that say Tesla doesn't care about such things, and they want cash and that jazz. Just misinformed. Or making assumptions. Also for the states that don't deliver, one has to go register and get plates themselves. They don't mail them. Which is what this thread is about.

Tesla doesn’t care about what state your drivers license is based on. all they care about is if you have one or not. Cash too. Title is delivered to the registration Address . plates are delivered to the registration address.

My cash too reply was an answer to the person who asked. I paid cash.I have no doubt other states are different however Texas and California are providing the bulk of deliveries at this time. my Texas plates will be mailed to my registration address in Texas. I paid taxes on a new car and they mail me plates. That’s how Texas works.

Guys, My goal is to pickup at Austin but I live in NY. I want Tesla to wrap it in Austin right after pickup.

Please correct my steps:
1. Prep - Secure TX address, a friend in my case. In app, set zip code, pay deposit for the vehicle and wait for the VIN.
2. Days before delivery - Get a Tesla insurance month to month policy. Have cash/non-tesla loan funds ready total price including sales tax. Provide proof copies of ID/license and insurance.
3. Delivery - Inspect, pay and obtain the CT. They will put license tag and provide reg. Have them wrap it.
4. Transportation to NY - Drive or transport CT to NY. Whenever decided, register in NY and provide proof taxes were paid and pay any difference based on the rate.

how did you resolve that issue ? did you have to get a seperate provider ? or was your out of state provider able to do things in a specific way to satisfy them ?

It depends on your insurance agent and if your state will accept the terms of another state’s insurance. Most insurance companies don’t like doing this because they want your rate to be to the state where it’s garaged and registered. My insurance company is in Utah because it’s half the price of Colorado. I ask my insurance agent if I can register my vehicles the first year in Colorado when I buy them new because tax is half of Utah, insure it under Utah, then re-register it in Utah after the first year is up. She lets me do that. I have done that with my last 4-5 vehicles. However, Colorado will accept Utah insurance as long as it meets the minimum requirements.

This was the longer answer of what someone else said in the thread… you can always insure it under FL for 1 month then just switch it to MA. With State Farm, you can do it in their app within seconds.

I have a buddy in Austin that I could use his address for the truck. But the delta in sales tax for me 5.35% and thus would cost me $6,955.00 more. I’ll wait for that amount ?
