Does the payment of the truck and all that come before seeing it in person or after?

I want to know if I see the truck in person and it has a bunch of misaligned panels and door creaks that I can just back out and take my $250 loss and refuse delivery up until the very last minute.

There should be an expectation that the vehicle should be pretty much perfect when you pick it up. That's what PDI is for. I guess it depends if tesla consider panel gaps normal or a defect. I have walked away from a vehicle one time as the leather on the seats was a mess. Fords excuse was that it's like that because it's real leather but the defects in the leather shouldn't have made it into the seat in my view. I got a full refund and waited for another truck from another dealer.

Yep, but it will be a lot more than $250. It's nearer $2,000. Look at the Order contract for details.

And you may be barred from getting one.

Give them a chance to fix any issues, they often do an awesome job.

If you haven't paid yet they can't take the $ from you, might loose some deposit $
Little scary if it is "paid in full" and you show up and it is not in the condition or to the quality (panels/screen) that you expect.

Yes. I have done it twice on a 2021 Model Y due to dirt embedded in the paint (both vehicles) but they ordered me a replacement vehicle. 3rd time was a charm. 99% perfect fit and finish and zero paint flaws.

Maybe one day you will understand.

How constrained was production at that point? i.e. how long did you wait after you ordered it?

Saw the embedded paint on a Model Y a couple years ago, it was like they took the freshly painted car and then drove it around before the paint cured, no way to wash it off or buff it out as it was partially IN the paint. Glad you caught it early, paint on them (especially red) is really nice when done well.

You cannot open the vehicle until you have paid in full and accepted it in the app. But you can inspect the outside and peer inside all you want, and reject it if necessary. They will take it back and deliver a different one. This shouldn't take too long for a production model, but with FECT it's a crapshoot.

We live in SoCal so once the online order was submitted it took about a month to show up.

The Tesla reps actually tried to tell me the second vehicle was a fresh from Fremont. I called their bluff because I took a pic of the first VIN and it was the exact same vehicle. Yes, I caught them in a lie. Tesla had it for two weeks and the vehicle received fresh body work and paint. I instantly rejected the vehicle.

It was then that the Tesla representative apologized and immediately ordered us a brand new replacement Y from the Fremont factory. It took about two weeks to arrive.

Moral of the story? Don’t purchase an in stock vehicle as it was most likely a customer reject due to a QC issue.

So you were in a period very low delivery times. Would you have done the same thing id your replacement was 12 months out?

Yes, fairly quick delivery windows back in Q1 of 2021.

Will I reject my future Cybertruck over visible QC issues upon delivery? After waiting over 4-years it would have to be a pretty serious issue that was accidentally overlooked by the PDI. Paint flaws will obviously no longer be a problem with the Cybertruck.

I denied 4 Model 3s before accepting one. Had way too many paint problems until I settled on one that had the least haha. That was in 2018 tho. Who know if they let you deny it for another still...

Cybertruck does have paint, just not on any A-surfaces.

Here's the funniest Tesla QC issue ever... a handprint in the paint:

Tesla Cybertruck Can I cancel and refuse on delivery day? {filename}

Yes, it's actually under the clear coat. LOL

Some mostly mentioned it, but here is the basic gist as I understand it.

The vehicle comes, you check it out (they might let you open it if theyre cool). If you dont like it, you can ask them to fix the stuff prior to acceptance or you can reject it entirely.

If you reject it entirely, you can wait for another one to come or cancel your order. In the case of the cybertruck cancelling your order may have higher fees associated with it as was pointed out earlier, but I really doubt it, because there is for sure someone else who will take it from that same service center.

Also, because of the special circumstances around CT, they may force a cancel if you reject, and make you go to the end of the line.

Overall, I would just ask them to fix any issues and still pick it up.

For me, in the past, they agree to fix all the stuff, and I set up a service appointment. I take the vehicle and bring it back on the day of the appointment and they fix it for free. (you could probably leave it there if you really wanted to but I would take it lol)
