Uhh, Apple is an American company with American standards.

So not as much as you think.

They are all made in China, American or not. Tesla is an American Company with American standards too. That is little comfort when it comes to all the shoddy stuff that comes out of China, like toxic gypsum wallboard, Cadmium laced paint for children's toys, Melamine tainted dog food responsible for the deaths of many pets. Their track record is long and well-documented.

I lived in Guangzhou and helped set up a factory in China. We were a Canadian company. Standards and processes were identical to Canada. Components were the same (from China). There was zero difference between the Canadian and Chinese products after we got the lines working with appropriate quality control. So it has nothing to do with China, it’s about how that factory is managed and the components they use. And shame on Tesla if they don’t have their people embedded in critical factories.

I just checked and the aluminum foil in my hat is made in China. No wonder why it hasn't been working!
Some things are hard to bungle, even for the Chinese. Could it be what's under it?

If they didn't bungle it, they probably stole our formula.

if you compare a product cost 10 cents from China and $1 US made. Of course US made will win. If you compare 80 cents made in China vs $1 US made. The China made will at least as good if not better.

China will build a product to the requested standard from the buyer, so if price point is desired than focus will be on the low cost manufacturing, but if quality is needed then of course the cost of manufacturing will go up. I know that is not a truth all the time. When the bay bridge upper deck fell in 1989 earthquake the engineers found the 5" bolt did not meet the strength specifications. Certifications are meaningless without testing.

Great point, but does not seem Fremont quality is better :)
How many Fremont built Teslas have had to be replaced due to quality failures or toxicity concerns? Pets died from melamine contaminated food. Homes gutted from toxic wall board. The list goes on. Soon China will be building Tesla clones then ultimately nationalize Shanghai altogether. Watch! Bad move there. They're free to break any agreement. They're communists after all.

Your fears seem to ignore the thousands who died in the US due to such things over the last century. Teething issues are of course going to happen.

At least China treats these issues as criminal. How many went to jail over the Corvair?

I'm going to ignore your 'nationalize' issue, since it has never happened, and won't. But using scare tactics meant to defend predatory owners of capital is really pretty disgusting.
