This is coming up to a line of cars waiting at a red light. 3 cars behind me, an Impala wasn’t paying attention and slammed into a Challenger which pushed that into a Tahoe which pushed that towards me. Cybertruck decided not to be involved and moved forward, giving a few inches of clearance between my bumpers and the cars on either side of me. Thanks, FSD, for leaving me to be a witness instead of an involved party!

Nice example! Were you watching in the rear view camera when it happened? In other words, would you have perceived the accident about to occur? Or was FSD the only thing watching the rear at that time?

I was only looking out the front at the time. Just making sure it was slowing at an appropriate rate for the car in front of me (you know, putting that supervised in supervised FSD).

I didn’t even hear the initial crash with my sound system doing its thing. I was surprised when it stopped where it should have then lurched forward.

Is FSD designed to do this?

Regardless, glad you’re not involved!
Apparently so. News to me but very glad it did! Tahoe definitely would have hit me if FSD hadn’t moved up. Some props must be given to the Tahoe driver too. She was on her brakes hard after getting hit. Just for reference (hard to gauge from the video), this was a good enough crash that air bags deployed and the driver of the Challenger went to the hospital by ambulance.

Sorry but no human in the world would have that kind of reaction time to avoid that. It 100% saved you from being rear ended.
Wholeheartedly agree. Damage might even have exceeded $8K, so I think FSD just paid for itself. Plus it’ll let me nap while it drives me around someday. Can’t ask for much more. Anyone not buying FSD in late 2025 is crazy lol

there is a setting.... I don't recall where it was at... but there is a choice to help avoid accidents

Yes. Other documented instances of this. Sometimes it does the “take over immediately” sound to let you know its internally saying “oh shit” but yeah it does this if it can, and theres space in front of you

I’ve had this happen before in my model 3 on FSD - looked just like this too. Stopped and then jolted forward to avoid the rear collision

Incredible tech, isn’t it? It just saved me my deductible and probably months of headache.

On 2 occasions, my 2016 Model X beeped/flashed the take over immediately and swerved to the very edge of my lane on the highway while I was driving manually to avoid a truck drifting into my lane. This was back before FSD Beta, so I have no idea if the same code exists in the stack today.

I'm not sure why the owner's manuals don't detail the various accident avoidance features in the code, but it's obvious there's more than just FCW/AEB when driving manually.

Wow that is very impressive! From the looks of this video, it intentionally moved to avoid getting hit!
