I'm thinking of adding some Tesla crossbars to my CT but in the manual it states "Remove the crossbars before entering an automatic car wash." - is this really the case? Anyone experience with the crossbars? Also - any noise with them at highway speed?

I have the OEM crossbars on my model 3 and have no issues using a touchless car wash. I have only ever hand washed my truck and have aftermarket cross bars on it. I think the warning is due to the microfiber spinning things having a risk of getting caught in the cross bars.

I had the mars bars and now OEM. Both of them I've taken through a regular brushed car wash and haven't had any issues.

No appreciable noise. Can’t speak to car wash my cars are hand washed by a mobile detailer.

Can’t imagine that there would be though. Installed correctly and torqued down with the wrench included in the kit, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Less so if you use a touchless car wash.

The carwash disclaimer is on all externally mounted gear, with possibly an exception for the glued on lightbar. Carwashes also all have a disclaimer that add-ons to your vehicle are not their responsibility, even if they're OEM. So yes, true, but probably something you can safely ignore. If there's ever an issue, Tesla and carwash have their asses covered.

There’s no torquing the OEM racks down. They just clamp on when you close the latch.

That’s definitely don’t true. The latch pieces have to be torqued down with two bolts with the supplied torque stick.

Yes. Once latched, the rack isn’t coming off of the connection and there’s no additional torquing.

BUT, first you must install the base plates, which have to be torqued down with the torque wrench included in the box.

AND, if the base plate is properly torqued, there is little to worry about with the system. Though you should be checking the fitment, as outlined in the installation procedure, once in a while just to make sure.

It’s not every day that one gets called out by a guy with a cybertruck and a lucid for flexing too hard. I am deceased now. ?

the lucid is a lease thats 400 a month
How do you like it? Genuinely curious.

Not to hijack or start a flame war, but I just can’t wrap my head around them I think they’re so ugly (IMO). The efficiency and engineering in the motors and their tiny size is so cool (but as out of spec showed it’s so efficient that it’s affected by the slightest perturbation in range).

The sapphire is the only thing that comes close to my plaid and it’s more than twice the price.

Sorry I assumed common sense stuff didn’t need mentioning. Yes, you must first install the brackets with a supplied wrench. Then the quick release crossbars simply clamp down on them with their integral pop down cover. But if you take the crossbars off when not being used, there is no torquing of anything when reinstalled.

I guess how often you check the bracket torques and your wheel lug nuts torques is up to you.
