Can anyone explain how Tesla updates work? I find it very confusing and I'm super techy and work in IT. It seems like some people get one version and other people get a different version. For example I have version 2024.26.3.1 which I got 2-3 days after it released (I get the whole rolling out updates in batches) but I may not get 2024.26.6 b/c I have .3.1 and may jump to 2024.26.10 when it comes out? Looking at the release notes on notateslaapp.com it seems like 2024.26.3.1 & 2024.26.6 are basically the same? Is this correct? Or are the various versions model specific? They are even showing versions 2024.26.4 & 2024.26.5 that haven't been installed on any Teslas as of right now...

Updates are released in batches. You may get 2024.26.6 from 2024.26.3.1, as I an about 80 other CTs on Teslafi did. We don't know how the order of the batches are created by Tesla. You definitely will not get 2024.26.10 as that is 12.5.1.3 FSD and it's not available for the CT or HW3 (only HW4 S3XY).

Outside of the holiday update (Christmas) and recall updates the fleet is typically spread out over 3-5 different versions, except for the FSD testing group. The thought is that some updates contain serious bugs and Tesla doesn't want to negatively impact the entire fleet at once.

There are typically multiple "minor fixes" versions of a release as they find issues and then release fixes. That's why 2024.26.1-2024.26.6 have the same release notes outside of the FSD 12.5 version in 2024.26.10.

Basically you shouldn't worry about releases as you can get as far as 6 months behind the newest version and it be normal according to Tesla. With FSD being included in all releases, I doubt the releases will ever get that far behind, again, but it was normal for FSD versions as recently as last year.

And this.

Found a list of all updates.

Now I'm even more confused lol. Did it originally say you were downloading 2024.26.6 or was that just a mistake? And why are they just sending you version 2024.26.3.1 now? Its been out since July 27th. Like I said in my previous post I get rolling out updates but doing it for over 2 weeks? @65SoYoLO do you have your updates set to "advance" or whatever its called? I do so that could explain why but if you do too then 🤷‍♂️

2024.26.6 does not have FSD for the CT. It's just a bug fix from earlier 2024.26.X releases. Most of the fixes look to involve the cooling system when looking at the changes in Service Mode.

For those waiting for the CT to get FSD, we'll see reports of employees getting it first, followed by influencers like Whole Mars, Dirty, and Chuck Cook, then we should expect it, typically a week after that influencer group.

Edit: We aren't even to the employee stage, yet. Likely another 2-4 weeks.

@SCTesla awesome, thank you for the info! That clears up a bunch. Tesla's method still seems a little odd to me but also makes sense. I guess that's Tesla for you lol. So based on this it sounds like CT's wont be getting 2024.26.10 but will be getting a similar version e.g. 2024.26.10.1 or 2024.26.11 (or whatever number they decide) that will include 12.5.1.3.

It definitely won't be FSD 12.5.1.3, and since the CT is waiting for the highway stack it will almost certainly be a version upgrade like 12.5.2 or 12.5.3. 12.5.1.3 doesn't include highway stack, nagless with sunglasses, HW3, or CT.

The meaning behind the number is 2024 (year). 26 (week of release).3 (major update version). 1(minor update version).

FSD is similar; 12(architecture version). 5(major update). 1(minor update). 3(bug fix built on that minor update).

prefect, thank you. I got the 2024 part but didn't realize the second number = week of release.

I believe the first time it said 26.6 and this was 26.7. It is also said to advance but it has been the entire time

Be sure to let Elon know!

There was like a 1 year period where my MS received the first release of all FSD (usually with or before Chuck Cook/Dirty). Not sure what I did to get tagged in that, but it was fun. I had a lot of versions that never made it anywhere, but I'd sign up for it again if I could. My MS has HW3, so it won't ever be part of that group again, but hoping my CT can.

The thing about Tesla updates that I think is the most confusing for people is they not only do phased rollouts but not all suffix branches will be relevant for your truck. Tesla will iterate multiple times as they ramp up a production line, including changing components. So even tho there is a higher number release it may not be relevant to your vehicle at all since the changes impact controllers not on your vehicle.

the downside to this tho is they bundle feature changes with ecu firmware so as your vehicle ages it can take drastically longer to get those new features.
