Meanwhile, these facts generate the same fanboi reaction over on the Rivian forums...

I think there's no reason to own a non-Tesla unless you really need a truck (and the CT is currently a general mess as well as overpriced). R1S vs truck is dumb, it would be more against an X, no?

Tesla is far more capable and safer with actually advanced ADAS and Autopilot.

Rivian is more luxurious and better fitted than the CT.

Which is your priority? I want my Autopilot back, but need a truck.

Aside from that there is charging, which may or may not be an issue in some areas. *WE* have been heavily impacted by the inability to use certain Superchargers where we travel. I've been told this isn't an issue in some places. I can't verify that.
Seems like a lot of compromises.

Pro user tip for step up bed access:

Stand adjacent to the tailgate button looking rearward. Put your left palm just inside of the tailgate button, fingers inside the bed, and step with your left foot onto the bumper (just aft of the wheel arch) with your toes pointing mostly rearward. As you step up rotate your body counter-clockwise and put your right foot on the tailgate. Voila! You are standing in the bed!

In normal height suspension mode, this is an easy step for adults of average size and average physical condition to make, it requires very little actual strength or flexibility. In entry mode it's good for short adults or those having below average leg strength. If you have something heavy in your arms, put it on the tailgate first. This works well on both sides of the truck, the move is just a mirror image.

The same foot step (one on either side) can be used to reach boxes, duffle bags, backpacks, tools, building materials, almost anything, in almost any portion of the bed, without climbing all the way into the bed. Just face forward, put your outside hand on the bed rail, step with the toes of your inside foot pointing forward 45 degrees, just aft of the wheel arch. I can reach stuff in the bed even easier than in my 2010 F-150 4x4 (because the F-150 has no step on the side of the bed).

A number of people made a big deal about lack of bed access, but it's a complete non-issue compared to any other full-sized truck like the Silverado or F-150.

Every time I use my Cybertruck for truck things I discover how much easier it is to get stuff done compared to all other trucks I've used. Of course, I've never had a truck with a "man step" and a fold-out handle. ;)

Now, where can I find a bed mounted, 6-axis, 48V, 1/2 ton robotic arm with a Bluetooth controller that can reach the ground and stows tightly on one side of the bed?
That is awesome. Thanks for the pro tip! Appreciate it. On the super cool robot arm, I while someone makes this we can always bring a friend and pay him with a few beers ??

I was ready to buy the promised truck the split second that I could. I had told everyone that this was my plan. We really do need a truck, and having only a sedan was limiting. But I didn't want old-tech junk like the Lightning, so it was really only the CT for me. But then reality hit, the promises proved to be bullshit (like everything out of Musky's mouth lately), and I started actually shopping. We ended up with a Rivian, and while it's full of compromises too, it actually has what was promised and expected. Watching the frog boil is amusing now, and also sad because I've been a Tesla supporter and investor for some time. The CT is a ridiculous mess.
For some reason it best selling EV truck.

Does anybody else feel like a new design of the Cybertruck is a “slow boil” of a frog? The initial vision is a large truck with a stainless steel body bent in right places and a unicast that transfers the load from the frame to the body of the truck. It looks massive, impressive, and cyber… Glass is able to withstand rocks, sides the bullets and it seats 6. Moreover, it is going to be so cheap to produce and the range will kick such an ass(500 miles), that it will be a game changer and disruptive for existing truck market. New Cybertruck is the aluminum cast with the raw unambiguous stainless steel plate panels that are thin, unbend, cut the skin, fastened to aluminum cast, smaller truck in size, standard glass that cracks left and right based on feedback, price tag out of this world and nothing but problems. I am a die hard fan for Tesla but I am feeling like something is just wrong between what I have being waiting for 5 years and what is offered. Does anybody else realizing what is happening? Or we are just ready to jump on any grenade as long as it say “Cybertruck” in Tesla’s font on it?
I don't have much experience with the CT yet but I'm not worried or bothered by the first-edition. :) Can't wait to get mine in a few years!

Yeah so just because the Rivian is the best seller doesn’t make it he best. McDonald’s and Budweiser are best sellers but they are also garbage.

The Cybertruck has been outselling the R1T every month for the last 5 months or more. It's actually outselling all EV trucks combined.

I wonder where all those people were who claimed Ford and Rivian were getting first mover advantage in the electric pickup market and that would spell the death knell for the Cybertruck?

The true "slow-boiling frog" moment is represented by all the pickups that have to be priced well under the cost to produce them. Because it's unsustainable.

Ribbit, Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, ...... ...... .... .. .. .

I don't want this to happen, but I can't buy enough Rivians to keep them afloat, because the more I buy, the more they lose. The only way to turn the company around is to get a stronger, more dynamic leader that actually understands capital efficiency and has great vision. RJ is running Rivian into the ground by not understanding the money side of the business and not having any vision as to where to take the company. Capital efficiency is paramount to remaining a going concern. He makes noises that they are making incremental improvements to their cost of production but he seems to have no urgency.

If I were a RIVN investor, and I thank my lucky stars I'm not, I would demand better leadership. Unfortunately, RJ has designed the company such that he can't be easily removed and he only hires top management that show even less acumen than he does.

Even if he could cause Rivian to show a gross profit on production for one quarter (as he claims will happen in Q4), and I don't believe that for a minute, it's going to be a hail Mary effort, they will be back to gross losses the following quarter. And he certainly doesn't know how to get them to a corporate net profit, ever. The current business plan can't do that.

He's had more than enough chance, he's got to go. People who are ignorant on the matter will say it took Tesla many years to become net profitable at the corporate level. But they seem blissfully unaware that Tesla auto production was always gross profitable, except for a couple of quarters. Rivian auto production has NEVER been even close to being gross profitable. It's a night/day difference, look it up.

Blackberry is a better phone than iPhone. It has an actual keyboard and you can swap out the battery yourself. The iPhone is having a 17 year slow boiling frog moment…
